BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 3, 2023) - The #9 Rollins Tars find themselves in solid position after the opening two rounds of the Lynn Invitational at Boca Woods Country Club with a team score of 601. Three of the four teams ahead of the Tars... Lynn, Dallas Baptist, and Nova Southeastern ... are the first, second, and third-ranked teams in the country.
Rollins started the day strong with a third-place effort following round one.
Katharina Hesse, currently ranked ninth in the GolfStat individual rankings, led the charge with a 67 (-5), putting her in second-place overall. She carded six birdies in the round.
Carla Alvarez was next in line with a 74 (+2), including a trio of birds.
Tove Rosengren shot a five-over 77, while Bernie Villalba and
Liza Eubanks each turned a card of 78 (+6). As a team, they shot a 296 (+8), putting them in third-place and four shots back of leader #2 Dallas Baptist (292, +4).
Round two was not as kind to the Tars as they combined to shoot 305, a nine-shot difference from their effort in round one. Alvarez was the low-score for Rollins in the afternoon session, with a score of 75 (+3). She had a ten-hole stretch where she either shot par or birdie on each. Rosengren matched the effort of Alvarez with a 75 that included thirteen pars. Hesse shot a 77 (+5), hampered by a triple bogey on the par four fifteenth. Villalba matched her first-round effort with a 78 (+6) to round out the scoring for the Tars.
Despite the stumble in round two, Hesse is tied for first-place in individual play alongside Ana Maria Jimenez Rios (Tampa) with an even 144. Alvarez is tied for thirteenth with her score of 149 (+5).
Dallas Baptist and Lynn are tied for the team lead with a 589 (+13). Nova Southeastern sits in third at 596 (+20), followed by Tampa at 599 (+23), and then the Tars.
The third and final round will tee off on Tuesday morning.
