Rollins 1
The Warhawks exacted revenge on Rollins after falling to the Tars last weekend in Gulf Shores. They jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring on a triple and an error to take a quick 2-0 lead. AUM would strike again in the top of the second for another pair. With two outs, a throwing error from Rollins allowed a run to score and keep the inning alive. The next Warhawk batter walked, followed by a single to make it a 4-0 game.Â
Auburn Montgomery scored once more in the third to go up 5-0. Rollins was able to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth when
Ashley Worrell drove in
Grace Germer with a single. That would be it for the Tar offense in game one, as they eventually fell 7-1.Â
Claire Long had two hits to lead the offense.
Emily MacMullen suffered the loss, though two of the runs she allowed were unearned.Â
Rollins 6
Wingate 3
The Tars were able to bounce back with a South Region win against Wingate in the afternoon.
Morgan Lebeda got things started with a sac fly in the first inning, but Rollins blew the game open in the second.
Jaden Walker led off the inning with a solo bomb.
Ashley Troutman would follow with a single and a stolen base. Germer followed with a sac bunt, but a throwing error by the pitcher allowed her to reach safely and Troutman to score. Worrell would then bring in Germer with a two-out single, giving Rollins a 4-1 lead.Â
Wingate got two back in the top of the third to keep it close. Then, in the bottom of the fourth, Lebeda walked with the bases loaded to bring in a fifth run for Rollins. The Tars added their final run in style when
Claire Long singled, stole second, moved to third on a single, and then stole home on a double steal.
Rollins put together eleven hits in the game, including three from Troutman and two from Worrell. Worrell also pitched the entire game, racking up a season-high 12 strikeouts in seven innings of work.Â
The Tars will open up conference play this weekend when they host the Embry-Riddle Eagles First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
