Big Seventh Powers Sailfish Past Tars

Palm Beach Atlantic defeated Rollins 7-2 on Friday night

WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 8, 2026) - Softball dropped the opener of their final series of the season, falling 7-2 to Palm Beach Atlantic. The Tars now stand at 27-16, 15-13 SSC while the Sailfish improve to 21-28, 11-17 SSC.

After a quiet first, the Sailfish opened up the scoring with an RBI single from Miranda Rollins. Reese Twiggs was able to strand two runners and escape further damage.

Rollins also stranded a pair in the bottom half, and Palm Beach Atlantic was right back at it in the third Three singles from the first four batters of the inning brought in their second run. With the bases loaded, Twiggs received a huge boost from her infield as they turned a 5-4-3 double play to get out of the jam.

The Tars had another prime opportunity in the fourth, loading the bases with two outs. Unfortunately, Clair Long flew out to left as the Sailfish escaped the inning.

Rollins was on the wrong end of a tough call in the bottom of the sixth. With runners on second and third, Long flared a ball half way up the right field line. A diving attempt from the right fielder saw the ball plain-as-day touch her glove while in fair territory, as both runners came across and Long ended up on third. However, the home plate umpire called it a foul ball, resetting the bases. Long would then pop up to end the inning.

The Sailfish exploded for five runs in the seventh, including two home runs. Rollins did not go down without a fight. In their final frame, they collected three hits, including two of the pinch variety from Chloe Bauer and Alondra Maldonado-Ortiz. Cambrie Todd added a sac fly to make the final of 7-2.

Brooke Theisen had two hits to lead the offense. Twiggs went 6.1 innings before giving way to Addison Crawford

The two teams will see each other on Saturday, May 9 for a doubleheader starting at noon from MLK Park. Following the second game, coach Christine Roser-LeFevers and her staff will honor their senior class.
