Tars Seventh After Day One of the Jay Jenison Cup

Will Koepke leads Rollins with a one-under, 143

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (September 20, 2021) – The Tars sit in a tie for seventh after 36 holes at the Jay Jenison Cup at Slammer and Squire at the World Golf Village.  Will Koepke leads Rollins with a one-under, 143.

Rollins turned in a one-over, 289, in the opening round, and held steady with a two-over second round, to end the first day of competition at three-over, 579, tied with Coker for seventh position.  The Tars and Cobras trail sixth place Barton College by 13-strokes, and are two strokes ahead of Lenoir Rhyne and Tampa who sit at five-over, tied for ninth.
 
Barry used the day's low round, a 270 second round to grab a lead at 22-under par, 554.  The hosts, Flagler is tied with Montevallo in the second position, with a score of 13-under.  Lynn and Belmont Abbey round out the top-five.

Koepke shot one under on the opening 1, before tallying an even par, with three birdies and three bogies in his second round, good for tie for 23rd at 143.  Connor Kelly shot one-over in his first round in the Blue and Gold, shooting an even par 72 to open the day, followed by a 73 on the second 18 holes.  Warut Wongrungroj opened the tournament with the Tars low round, a three-under, 69, before shooting a 77 in the second round.  The most experienced Tar in the field, Nicholas Diebel opened his campaign with an 80, before recovering with a 70 in the second round.  Rodrigo Rodas tallied rounds of 77 and 75, good for a tied for 69th.  Jacob Hair competed as an individual, shooting a one-under 71, and a 77, putting him in 48th place.
 
Three players are tied for first, at nine-under, after 36-holes.  Two of those players are Barry Buccaneers, A.J. Ewart and Nicolas Quintero.  Bryson Boyette of Barton holds the final top position.  Ewart shot the tournament's low round, a 63, to jump 22 places and into the lead.  Jonathan Hallinger from Coker sits fourth.  Eckerd's Tim Scholl and Montevallo's Gregory Jones are tied for fifth, at seven under.
