Chapman Finishes Second at UWF Copperhead Invitational

Rollins took 9th place as a team

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (October 14, 2025) - Men's golf wrapped up their three rounds at the Copperhead Invitational on Tuesday with Clarence Chapman III leading the charge. The big lefty finished in a tie for second-place on the individual leaderboard while the Tars finished 9th overall in the 17-team field. The event was played at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Golf Course, hosted by West Florida.

Monday's first round was a rough start for the Tars as they finished at +17. Chapman was the top performer with a 74 (+3) as he fired 15 pars and three bogeys. Sean Dobson had three birdies in his initial round, and was one shot behind Chapman with a 75. Andrew Clark matched the 75, and Mick Herron closed out the team score with a 77. 

Things changed drastically in the second round. Chapman came out scorching hot totaling seven birdies in his second effort, leading to a career-best 66 (-5). Dobson matched his three birdies from round one and finished with a 74. Clark carded a 75 for the second time, and Jules Haessig helped the team score with a 75 of his own as well. 

In Tuesday's final round, Chapman played nearly perfect golf. He shot a 35 on the front and a 34 on the back for a 69 (-2). He had two birdies and 16 pars in his mistake-free round. Herron also turned in a solid effort, posting a one-under 70 to help him finish at +10 for the event. Dobson was two-over at 73, and Haessig added a 77 to round out the scoring. 

Chapman finished just one stroke behind Per Eklund of West Florida for the trophy, tying TJ Thompson (West Florida) and Bryce Wheeler (Grand Valley State) for second at four-under. West Florida took the team title with an astounding 11-under, finishing well ahead of second-place Grand Valley state (E). Rollins ended up tied for ninth with a score of 28-over.

Next up for the Tars is the Fripp Island to Bermuda Invite, hosted by GolfWeek. Taking place at Ocean Point Golf Club, the individual winner of the event will receive an exemption to play in a PGA event in Bermuda. The tournament is scheduled for October 20-21.
