Tars Earn Two Wins on the Road to Start the 2025 Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Milledgeville, Ga. (September 5, 2025) – Rollins opened the 2025 season with a pair of wins on Friday at the Bobcat Classic, sweeping Albany State (25-19, 25-19, 25-18) before defeating Young Harris 3-1 (25-13, 27-25, 15-25, 25-10).

The Tars opened strong, going on a 5-1 run to start the match. The team found another swing of momentum a few moments later, capitalizing on a 6-1 string of points to extend the lead. Despite a late push from the Golden Rams, Rollins held firm to take the opening set.

The second set featured seven ties and four lead changes, Rollins finding themselves up just 20-19 in the frame. Five straight points by the Tars provided the late surge needed from the team to extend the overall lead to 2-0. In the third, the set score remained close until another late push sealed the first victory of the season for Rollins.

The Tars outhit Albany State in the contest, posting .137 as a team. Rollins held the edge in nearly all stat categories, including 12 aces, four of those coming from Jenna Garza. Cameron Grange led the way in the match offensively, earning nine kills. Marta Tsaneva chipped in seven kills of her own, boasting a .385 attack percentage. Freshman Rylee Yarborough's collegiate debut featured a solid stat line as well, posting six kills and two aces. Defensively, middles Makayla Moran and Robinson Repass held strong, each earning four block assists in the match.

The momentum rolled over into game two of the day against Young Harris. Rollins came out hot against the Mountain Lions, taking the early 13-3 lead in the first and keeping the gap to go up 1-0 in the contest. A few changes on the Young Harris side made the match more competitive, taking the Tars to 25-25 in the second. Back-to-back points by Rollins is how the set ended, however, extending the advantage to the Blue and Gold. A mid-set run from the Mountain Lions in the third eventually put Young Harris on the board, forcing the match to a fourth set. Rollins slammed the door shut, though, using the team's most dominant set of the day, hitting .469, to close it out and get the second win of the day.

The team found an even better rhythm in system, improving overall attack percentage in the match. 10 block assists and two solos mirrored this morning's matchup, creating even more confidence for the Tars heading into the rest of the Classic. Yarborough built on her debut performance, posting double-digit kills in the contest. Grange did the same, earning her first double-digit stat line of the year. Another slew of aces helped Rollins to the win, Yarborough tallying three with Garza and Sarah Seabrooke earning two apiece.

The Tars will return to action tomorrow, September 6, for day two of the Bobcat Classic, facing Emory & Henry at 9 AM and the host Georgia College at 2 PM.
