Tars Come Up Short Against No. 13 Lynn

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Tars dropped Friday night's match against No. 13 Lynn inside Warden Arena, falling in straight sets (15-25, 23-25, 16-25).

Prior to first serve, Rollins and Lynn joined together to recognize the match officials as part of Officials Appreciation Week, thanking them for their dedication and contributions to collegiate athletics.

Cameron Grange led the Rollins attack with eight kills, while Robinson Repass and Kayla Goodloe chipped in six apiece. Grange and Rylee Yarborough each added an ace from the service line. Jenna Garza and Molly Morris once again split time directing the offense, tallying 14 and 12 assists, respectively.

Defensively, Sarah Seabrooke anchored the back row with seven digs, while Repass, Goodloe and Kai Hazelett led the effort at the net with two total blocks each.

The match opened with an offensive battle as Goodloe kicked things off with a kill. Grange followed with two of her own before Scuteri added another to give the Tars an early 4-2 advantage. Grange struck again before Scuteri and Remington Doggett teamed up for a block to stretch the lead to 6-3.

The Fighting Knights responded with a short run to take the lead before a pair of Lynn errors swung the advantage back to Rollins. Both teams then pieced together three-point stretches, with the Tars' run highlighted by a Repass and Hazelett block followed by a Repass kill.

The advantage shifted back toward Lynn before Goodloe found the floor to pull Rollins even once again. The Fighting Knights eventually found some separation, stretching their lead to five, but Grange answered with consecutive kills to keep the Tars within striking distance. Lynn responded with a decisive run of its own, closing out the opening frame, 25-15.

The Fighting Knights claimed the first point of the second before Repass answered with a kill. The sides traded points from there until Rollins found some separation, with a Grange ace giving the Tars the edge.

The lead changed hands again before Barron put one away, Repass came up with a block, and the Rollins pressure forced a Lynn error to create a two-point advantage. Hazelett added a kill and Goodloe followed with a solo block as the Tars maintained control, with Repass later finding the floor to preserve a three-point cushion.

Goodloe added another finish before Lynn made its move, using a 7-1 run to reclaim the advantage. Hazelett halted the surge with a kill, and the Tars responded with a run of their own. Repass and Hazelett each found the floor before Yarborough delivered an ace to cap a 5-2 stretch and pull Rollins even at 19.

Repass answered again to keep the score knotted at 20 before Barron and Goodloe teamed up for a block to make it 21-all. A Lynn error gave Rollins the late advantage, but the Fighting Knights responded and eventually worked their way to set point.

Scuteri kept the Tars alive with a kill, but Lynn found the final point to escape with the second, 25-23, and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Fighting Knights carried their momentum into the third, with Grange attempting to slow the early surge with a kill before Lynn built a 7-3 advantage.

Repass and Scuteri answered with kills to help steady the Tars before Grange responded to another Lynn point with a finish of her own. Hazelett added another kill, but the Fighting Knights began to pull away, eventually stretching their advantage to 17-9.

Goodloe found the floor before Scuteri came up with a solo rejection at the net to keep the Tars fighting. Goodloe, Grange and Hazelett each added kills down the stretch as Rollins tried to chip away, but the deficit proved too much to overcome. Lynn closed out the third, 25-16, to secure the match.

The Fighting Knights improve to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in SSC play, while the Tars move to 8-8 and 1-4 in conference action.

Rollins returns to Warden Arena on Saturday, hosting Nova Southeastern at 4 p.m.
