WINTER PARK, Fla. - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released their selections for the All-South Region team on Wednesday afternoon. Among the honorees was starting pitcher
Nick Berger, who was named to the second team.
Berger was a model of consistency for the Tars this season, leading the team in wins (7), innings (87.2), and games started (14). He posted a 2.98 ERA, allowing 29 earned runs on 91 hits while striking out 53. He allowed just 13 extra-base hits all season, and held opponents to a .268 batting average.
Out of his 14 starts on the mound, eight were considered quality starts (minimum six innings pitched while allowing three or fewer earned runs), by far the most on the team. Berger's top performance came against Florida Southern on May 5th when he went the distance in a nine inning, four hit, one run effort. He struck out seven in the game without issuing a walk.
In the Sunshine State Conference ranks, he was second in innings pitched and eighth in ERA.
