Worrell Tosses Five-Inning No-Hitter

Ashley Worrell threw her sixth career no-hitter on Friday
Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 8, 2024) – The Rollins softball team picked up a 3-0 win over King University on Friday. The contest was called after five innings due to an injury on what ended up being the final play of the game. Rollins is now 17-5 on the year, while the Tornado fall to 13-9.

Sarah Young finished 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Grace Germer was 0-for-1 with a walk, two stolen bases, a run scored, and an RBI. Ashley Worrell went 1-for-1 at the plate and pitched a no-hitter, striking out four, marking her sixth career no-hitter. The only baserunner she allowed came on a hit-by-pitch to the second batter of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Third Inning
  • Hayley Lazo started the third with a leadoff walk.
  • After stealing second, Lazo took third on a wild pitch with nobody out.
  • Germer then capped a 10-pitch battle with a sacrifice fly to score Lazo with the first run of the game.
Fourth Inning
  • Worrell led off the fourth with an infield hit, with Jodee Matos coming in to pinch run for her.
  • Matos then stole second and advanced to third on a groundout.
  • Young laced a one-out single up the middle to score Matos, making it a 2-0 game.
Fifth Inning
  • Lazo drew another leadoff walk in the fifth, but she was promptly caught stealing second base.
  • Germer then took a walk and stole second.
  • Brie Michelli coaxed a walk, and Germer was able to swipe third after the ball was tossed back to the pitcher.
  • Michelli stole second to put two runners in scoring position with one out.
  • Taylor Waters lifted a sacrifice fly to right that scored Germer, with Michelli eventually being tagged out trying to score on the play.
  • During the play, Tornado catcher Gracelyn Rice suffered an injury, which precipitated the early conclusion to the game and the cancellation of the originally-scheduled second game.
