Five Tars Named GCAA All-America Scholars

A quintet of Rollins golfers earned the distinction of being named All-America Scholar by the GCAA on Wednesday

NORMAN, Okla. (August 9, 2023) – Five members of the Rollins men's golf team were named All-America Scholars on Wednesday, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). 

Axel Einarsson, Jacob Hair, Connor Jones, William Koepke, and Warut Wongrungroj were among the 214 NCAA Division II student-athletes from 80 schools to receive the honor.

To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior, or senior both academically and athletically, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. 

Einarsson played 15 rounds for the Tars during the 2022-23 season, posting a 75.0 stroke average. Along with four rounds of par or better, he posted one top-20 finish, tying for 16th at the McDonough Cup (+2). Hair competed in 23 rounds, leading the team with a 73.8 stroke average and six rounds of par or better. His best finish came at the McDonough Cup, where shot +4 to finish 22nd.

Jones saw action in 18 rounds, compiling a 75.1 stroke average with three rounds of par or better. He shot +2 at the SSC Championships to finish tied for 22nd. Koepke played 15 rounds and was third on the team with a 74.7 stroke average. He posted a pair of rounds of par or better, including a 68 at The Battle at the Shores. Koepke's best finish was a +2 at the SSC Championships where he tied his teammate Jones for 22nd.

Wongrungroj appeared in a team-high 26 rounds for the Tars, averaging 75.3 strokes per round. He posted five rounds of par or better and recorded a pair of top-20 finishes, highlighted by his medalist finish with a -11 at the McDonough Cup, where he also shot the low round of the season by a Tar with a first-round 64.
