HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • The Tars got off to a quick start, with Caroline Gastonguay opening the scoring just over a minute into the contest.
  • Bailey got her first of the game about 10 minutes later to make it 2-0 Tars, but Tampa notched its first goal just over a minute after that, making it a 2-1 game after one quarter.
Second Quarter
  • Both offenses picked it up in the second quarter, as 10 goals were scored in the period.
  • After Tampa scored first to tie it at two, Charlotte Gastonguay put Rollins back in front, 3-2, at the 10:03 mark.
  • The Spartans again tied it, but Mendes netted a free-position goal to make it 4-3 Tars with 8:41 on the clock.
  • Tampa then found some momentum, scoring four straight goals to go up 7-4 before Charlotte Gastonguay stemmed the tide with her second of the game at the 1:15 mark.
  • The Spartans were able to get a late goal before the break, going up 8-5 at halftime.
Third Quarter
  • UT continued to extend its lead early in the second half, scoring twice in the first 2:03 of the third quarter to push the margin to 10-5.
  • Caroline Gastonguay and Mendes scored the next two markers, cutting the deficit to 10-7 with 9:09 to play in the third.
  • After another Tampa goal, Rollins rattled off three straight, getting goals from Bailey, Mendes, and Reist, to pull within one at 11-10 with 3:30 left in the quarter.
  • Tampa responded with a pair of late goals to build its lead back to three at 13-10 heading to the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
  • Rollins really clamped down defensively in the final period, keeping Tampa off the scoreboard for over 10 minutes.
  • Bailey scored her third goal of the game 1:22 into the quarter to make it 13-11, from which point neither team was able to find the net for over seven minutes.
  • It was Bailey once again at the 6:06 mark to make it 13-12, and exactly one minute later, she netted her fifth goal of the game to level the score at 13-13 with just over five minutes to go.
  • The Spartans answered back with a goal at the 3:35 mark, and although the Tars won the ensuing draw control, Tampa was able to force a turnover to prevent Rollins from getting into its offense.
  • Barber came up with a huge save at the 1:18 mark to keep Rollins in it, but after Tampa corralled the rebound, the Spartans were able to run the clock down and score an empty-netter as the Tars employed the 10-man ride in an attempt to force a turnover, and Tampa would escape with a 15-13 victory.
