No. 2 Mocs Hold Off Tars

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 11, 2026) – No. 17 Rollins women's lacrosse battled No. 2 Florida Southern throughout Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell 12-10 at Cahall-Sandspur Field.

Delaney Hudson paced the offense with three goals and an assist. Delanie Abere and Audrey Grace Mumford each added multi-goal performances, while Kali Gagnon, Chloe Pierini, Gabby Yerardi, and Katie Bell also contributed on the scoresheet.

Defensively, Ashley Thurston and Anna (Grayson) Crowe each recorded two caused turnovers, while Bell controlled the draw circle with four draw controls. In goal, Alyssa Lentz turned in a standout performance with 14 saves and four ground balls.

Both teams opened with scoreless possessions before Abere broke through midway through the first quarter off a feed from Pierini. Hudson followed with a goal minutes later to give Rollins a 2-0 lead. Florida Southern responded with its first tally, but Mumford answered off a pass from Hudson to restore the two-goal advantage. The Mocs closed the quarter with two goals to even the score at 3-3.

Florida Southern carried that momentum into the second, scoring twice to take a 5-3 lead. Mumford responded with a free-position goal to bring Rollins within one, but the Mocs added another to extend the margin. The Tars answered midway through the frame, as Bell connected with Gagnon before Hudson converted a woman-up free-position opportunity to tie the game at 6-6.

Florida Southern briefly regained the lead, but Rollins responded again on a woman-up chance, with Gagnon finding the back of the cage to even the score. The Mocs added a late goal to take an 8-7 advantage into halftime.

The third quarter opened with a defensive battle, as both teams struggled to generate offense. Florida Southern broke the drought with a goal before Hudson answered to cut the deficit back to one. The Mocs responded quickly to extend the lead to two, but Abere converted a free-position opportunity late in the quarter to make it 10-9 heading into the final frame.

Florida Southern opened the fourth with two quick goals to create separation. After a Rollins timeout, Yerardi scored off a pass from Pierini to bring the Tars within two. Rollins continued to generate defensive stops and offensive opportunities, but Florida Southern held firm down the stretch to secure the 12-10 victory.

Rollins falls to 9-7 overall and 0-6 in Sunshine State Conference play, while Florida Southern improves to 13-1 (5-0 SSC). The Tars close out the regular season Tuesday, April 14, traveling to Palm Beach Atlantic for a 5 p.m. matchup.
