Golf Stat Standings
The action kicked off at 11:30 AM on Sunday morning, but the Tars didn't see the tee box until after 1:30 PM. All five golfers were paired against a Tampa Spartan. Bernie Villalaba started things off, and turned in a solid 76 (+4) that included a pair of birdies. Next up was
Tove Rosengren who managed three birides, but finished with a 78 (+6).
Elizabeth Kondal finds herself tied for 26th overall following her 77 (+5) effort.
Hitting as the two-seed for Rollins, next up was
Carla Alvarez. The sophomore started her round with seven straight pars. She then made a big leap, dunking an iron shot on the par-4 eighth for an eagle to vault her up the board to -2. Alvarez then rattled off another seven pars in a row before cashing in for bird on #16. Two more pars closed out her round at 69 (-3), putting her in a tie for second overall.
Katharina Hesse has led the Tars all year, but she stumbled a bit out of the gate with two bogeys in the first five holes. However, she refused to get rattled and birdied number seven to finish +1 on the front. Two more bogeys in the first four holes on the back dropped her down the standings a bit, but the senior again was able to lock in. She carded three birdies on the final five holes, including number 18, for a 35, giving her an even 72 for the round. That puts her in seventh place overall.
Rollins first-round score of 294 has them in third-place in the team standings. They are six shots behind #1 ranked Lynn (288), one shot behind Saint Leo (293), and four shots up on the #3 ranked NOva Southeastern Sharks (298).
The Tars will tee off tomorrow beginning at 9:45 am. They are paired with Nova Southeastern for the second round.
