Box Score 2 FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Feb. 25, 2023) – The Rollins softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at No. 24 Nova Southeastern on Saturday, falling 12-3 in five innings and 4-2. The losses drop the Tars to 6-7 overall, 2-4 in conference play, while the Sharks go to 12-4, 5-1 in SSC games.
Game 1 – No. 24 NSU 12, RC 3 (5 inn.)
Kaeli Zahradnik went 2-for-2 with two home runs, two runs scored, and three RBIs in game one, while
Taylor Waters was 2-for-2 with a stolen base.
Emily MacMullen (2-4) took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) in three innings, walking one and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- NSU wasted no time, using four hits and a walk to plate four runs in the first inning.
Second Inning
- The Sharks tacked on another run in the second to make it 5-0.
Third Inning
- Zahradnik got the Tars on the board in third, homering with one out to make it 5-1.
Fourth Inning
- Nova Southeastern posted six hits and took advantage of two Tar errors in the fourth to send 13 batters to the plate, scoring seven runs to push the lead to 12-1.
Fifth Inning
- Rollins got two runs back on a two-run home run from Zahradnik in the fifth, cutting the deficit to 12-3.
- With NSU leading by more than eight runs, the first game came to an early conclusion after five innings of play.
Game 2 – No. 24 NSU 4, RC 2
Zahradnik went 1-for-1 with a double, two walks, and two RBIs in game two, while
Morgan Lebeda was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Avery Garbarek (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs in a six-inning complete game, walking eight and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- As they did in game one, the Sharks took an early lead, using four walks, one hit, and an error to push three runs across in the first inning.
Fourth Inning
- The Tars cut into the lead in the fourth on a two-out RBI double from Zahradnik that scored Waters to make it a 3-1 game.
Fifth Inning
- NSU scored once in the fifth to regain a three-run lead, 4-1.
Sixth Inning
- Lebeda led off the sixth with a base hit and eventually got to third on a single from Brie Michelli.
- When Zahradnik drew a walk, ball four was a wild pitch which enabled Lebeda to come home with Rollins' second run of the game, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
- Michelli took third on the play, and Zahradnik then stole second, putting the potential tying run in scoring position with one out.
- Unfortunately, the Tars couldn't plate either runner, leaving both stranded as the Sharks maintained a 4-2 lead.
Seventh Inning
- Rollins was unable to threaten in the seventh, going down in order to fall by a final score of 4-2.
UP NEXT:
The Tars will be back at home next weekend to host Lynn in another three-game SSC series. Game one is slated for Friday, March 3 at 6 p.m.
