Tars Rise to Second After 36 Holes at SSC Championship

The Tars used the tournament’s low round to storm up the leaderboard at the 2022 Sunshine State Conference Championships

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (April 11, 2022) – The Tars used the tournament's low round to storm up the leaderboard at the 2022 Sunshine State Conference Championships, ending the second round in second position.  Carla Alvarez Perez sits in second individually to pace the Tars' lineup.

Rollins carded a six over, 290, over the second 18 holes.  Rollins will add that score to an opening round 303, to sit second with a, 25 over, 593.  The Tars round was the best 18 holes of the tournament by any team so far, three shots better than Barry's first day total of 293, and six strokes better than the best round of the tournament, a 296, also by the Bucs.
 
Barry holds the lead through 36 holes, with a two round total of 589.  The Tars sit four shots back of the Bucs in second.  The nation's second ranked team, Lynn, hold third position, eight strokes back of Rollins.  Embry-Riddle and Nova Southeastern round out the top five.

Carla Alvarez Perez matched the best round of the tournament with an even par, 71, in second round play.  The freshman went bogey free on the front nine, and carded four birdies as she rose nine spots on the leaderboard, and into runner up position.  Bernardita Villalba matched her teammates par score, including a bogey free back nine, to rise 20 spots on the leaderboard and sit alone in eighth place after 36 holes.  Elizabeth Kondal sits just outside the top ten, in 12th, after a 78 in the second round.  Katharina Hesse moved up 18 spots with a one over par, 72, on the day.  The junior was even through the front nine, and tallied a key birdie on th, par five 17th hole.   Olivia Tamburlini rounds out the Rollins lineup with second round score of 76, placing her in a tie for 24th overall.
 
Alice Gotbring of Barry leads the field, at two over, holding a one stroke advantage over Alvarez Perez.  Sara Ericsson, of Lynn, who also carded a 71 today, jumped 11 spots into third, at four over par for the event.  Nicola Fall, of Nova Southeastern, and Eve Marie Sapin, of Barry, are tied at five over.

The Tars will finish the Sunshine State Conference Championships at Plantation Bay Golf and Country Club, tomorrow, Tuesday, April 12.  The Tars are set to tee off at 9:20 from the first hole.
