MELBOURNE, Fla. (Nov. 20, 2022) – The Rollins women's swimming team came close to overtaking Florida Southern for the top spot at the Panther Invitational on Sunday, but ultimately the Tars came up just 15 points short, finishing in second with 1163 points. FSC won the meet with 1178 points, with Florida Tech taking third with 923 points and St. Thomas finishing fourth with 567 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Jill Hughes started the final day with a third-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 17:43.19.
- Leora Rose then took second in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.26, with Elizabeth Sander (2:10.10) and Janie Inscore (2:11.68) placing fourth and fifth, respectively.
- Alonna Clark was the top Tar in the 100-yard freestyle with a sixth-place time of 53.73.
- Abigayle Wood (2:21.17) and Carly Yeagle (2:26.66) touched the wall in second and third place, respectively, in the 200-yard breaststroke.
- Lauren Diehl posted a third-place time of 2:10.12 in the 200-yard butterfly.
- The team of Erika Wesch, Emily Hennessy, Clark, and Rose closed out the competition with a fifth-place time of 3:35.78 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
UP NEXT:
The Tars will be back in the pool on Friday, December 16 when they travel to Miami Gardens to face NAIA No. 11 St. Thomas in a meet slated for 12 p.m.
