WINTER PARK, Fla. – Rollins wrapped up its weekend of Sunshine State Conference competition on Saturday afternoon, facing off with nationally ranked Tampa at home. The Spartans claimed the overall victories, taking the women's meet 208–53 and the men's 194.5–66.5.
The Tars opened the day with solid relay swims in the 200 medley. The women's quartet of Holly Hirsch, Alexa Kwarcinski, Melanie Angelov, and Gardner Viney clocked 1:48.83 to take third. The men's team of Luke Dinges, William Slowey, Valentino Montedrande, and Wade Chandgie finished third as well with a time of 1:31.32.
In distance events, Elliot Fox led the Tars in the women's 1000 free with an 11:05.52 finish for fourth. On the men's side, Carter Kegle continued his strong early-season form with a runner-up finish in 9:43.46
Viney earned a third-place finish in the women's 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.68. For the men, Seth Basinger led the charge with a second-place time of 1:40.03, followed closely by Trey Carter (1:42.75) to give Rollins another top-five spot in the event.
Rollins earned key points in the breaststroke and butterfly events, highlighted by standout swims from Kwarcinski, who placed second in the 100 breast (1:04.18) and followed with another runner-up finish in the 200 breast (2:22.69). Taiylor Tegler was right behind her in both, placing third in 1:06.27 and 2:26.60, respectively. Dinges once again stole the show for the men in the butterfly events with a runner-up in the 100 fly (49.73) and a win in the 200 fly (1:51.36), while Montedrande added a third-place effort in the 100 fly (50.65).
Rollins' women continued to post steady results across multiple events, with Hirsch taking third in the 200 backstroke (2:10.32) and fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:15.83). Viney and Julianne Armstrong each secured top-five finishes in the 100 fly, while Abby Jessup and Dylan Beeson posted top-five placements in both sprint freestyle races.
On the men's side, Slowey shared the 50 freestyle title with Tampa's Alfredo Dominguez, both finishing in 20.67, also adding a runner-up swim in the 200 IM (1:52.90). Kegle, Chandgie, and Keanu Garnier-Chan each contributed additional top-five finishes across the distance and sprint freestyle events.
The meet concluded with the 200 freestyle relays, where the women's team of Jessup, Beeson, Kwarcinski, and Viney placed third in 1:38.71, while the men's squad of Carter, Chandgie, Sebastian Lopez, and Dinges clocked 1:25.65 for another third-place finish to close out the day.
Rollins will return home to the Alfond Pool at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, for an SSC dual against Barry.
