SET-UP:
Ranked No. 4 in the nation and one of just two undefeated teams left in the nation this season, Rollins is set to host seven games at MLK, Jr. Park. Rollins will look to continue its perfect season playing, Wilmington (Del.) and Adelphi in non-conference play. Later in the week the Tars will be back in Sunshine State Conference action against No. 17 Saint Leo. The Tars have moved to 17-0 (9-0 SSC) on the year and set a new mark for consecutive wins, eclipsing a 15-game winning streak in 2015.
WHO TO WATCH:
Rollins: The Tars are coming off a huge sweep of Barry where they beat the Bucs by a combined score of 16-2. Ashley Worrell won her 10th game of the season and picked up two victories over the Bucs. She is 15th in the nation and leads the SSC with an 0.34 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .144 against her, also an SSC best. Ali Shenefield has been just as impressive in the circle this year and is second in the SSC with 70 strikeouts.
Ashley Troutman batting a .396 with 17 runs scored, three doubles, two homeruns, and eight RBIs. Lindsay Gehring is hitting .359 with eight RBIs while Chelsea Peace (.358 BA) had a team-best 18 RBIs and leads the SSC with 10 homers. As a team, Rollins is hitting .282.
Wilmington University: The Wildcats started their seasons on Sunday, falling to Western Oregon and Grand Valley State in Winter Haven. Along with the Tars, Wilmington will face Embry-Riddle of the SSC this week. One of Wilmington key returners is senior Rosa'Lynn Burton. She was just named 2020 Schutt/NFCA DII National Player & Pitcher of the Year ``Watch List". Last season Burton broke the all-time record for hits in a season with 91, as well as the record for stolen bases, going a perfect 60-60 on the year. The left fielder hit .517 on the season, also breaking the all-time record, while recording a .543 on base percentage.
Adelphi: The Panthers were slated to finish second in NE10 conference Preseason Coaches Poll and split its opening games Sunday. AU lost to Saginaw Valley 3-0 and beat Western Oregon 10-2.
No. 17 Saint Leo: The Lions are now 13-6 overall, 3-3 SSC after winning two games and losing one against Palm Beach Atlantic this past weekend. Their key player for the Lions is Kacie Kelly with a .434 batting average with 16 runs, four doubles, one homerun, and seven RBIs. Pitcher Kayla Betts has won four games with a .72 ERA. She has thrown 33 strikeouts and pitched in 29.1 innings.
