WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 1, 2014) - The Rollins
baseball team will travel to Fort Lauderdale for the Tars' final
Sunshine State Conference series of the season as they match-up
with the Nova Southeastern Sharks May 2-3 at the NSU Baseball
Complex. The series begins Friday at 6 p.m.
Rollins heads into the final series of the season with a record
of 16-26 and a 2-19 mark in league play.
ROLLINS AT A GLANCE: The Tars are coming off a
7-2 win over Palm Beach Atlantic Wednesday. The Tars' midweek
contest was shortened due to weather but was considered a
regulation game.
Rollins outhit the Sailfish 10-6 with seven of the starting nine
recording at least one hit. The Tars' lineup was led by Philip
Burket, Matt Hendricks and Cam Brown with two hits each.
In the last five games, Rollins has won three with an imperative
win over No. 19 Florida Southern. The Tars won 2-1 in an
extra-inning affair that stretched over two days.
On the season, sophomore Matt Hendricks is batting .303 with 33
hits, including nine extra-base hits. He's scored 16 runs, driven
in 20, drawn 14 walks and stolen 11 bases.
Hendricks also leads the Tars pitching staff with a 3.88 ERA in
65.0 innings of work. He's made 14 appearances with six starts and
holds a 4-4 record in 2014. Hendrick's has struck out 46 batters
and is holding opponents to a .222 average at the plate.
Junior Christian Coburn is batting .289 on the year and leads
the team in almost all offensive categories. He leads in hits
(41), runs (29), triples (2), home runs (1), walks (15) and stolen
bases (17). Coburn comes in third in doubles (5) and RBI (12).
NOVA SOUTHEASTERN AT A GLANCE: The Sharks enter
the weekend with a record of 27-16 and 8-13 in the SSC. NSU sits
in the lower bottom of the league standings.
The Sharks are currently on a three-game win streak, most
recently defeating Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday.
NSU has five players batting over. 300 with Angel Navarro
leading with a .368 average. Alvin Swoope leads the Sharks with 52
hits and is batting .338 on the season.
On the bump, reliever Josh Glick leads the Shark pitching staff
with a 1.67 ERA in 14 appearances and 27.0 innings of action.
Starter Roberto Baroniel has made the most starts with 12 and holds
a 2.98 ERA in 81.2 innings. Baroniel has struck out 46 batters and
is 5-1 on the year.
