VALDOSTA, Ga. - The men's golf season came to end on Saturday as they could not make it into the Top 6 in team standings at the NCAA South Regional, hosted by Valdosta State at Valdosta Country Club.
Rollins got off to a hot start during Thursday's opening round. They were sitting in second-place before weather interrupted the round. Four of the five Tars birdied hole 14, but the pause in play sapped all of their momentum. A tough finish on the final four holes saw them fall to eleventh.
Mick Herron had the best finish with a two-under 70. He had one bogey, three birdies, and 14 pars.
Clarence Chapman III was also under par, shooting a 71 with four birdies.
On Friday, only
Andrew Clark managed to stay under the mark. The senior southpaw birdied two of his first four holes, and then added a third on his final hole to finish at 71 for the day.
Sean Dobson improved on his first round score by three shots, finishing at 73 (+1) for the day. Chapman and Herron each posted a 74.
In the final round on Saturday, Dobson became the third different Tar to lead the team. He was good for either birdie or par seventeen times en route to a two-under 70.
Gustav Ordel had a huge turnaround, going from an 81 on Friday to a 71 on Saturday. Chapman finished with a 73, and had an eagle on the par 5 14th.
Rollins ended up in 12th out of 20 teams, finishing eight over with an 872. Nova Southeastern won the tournament with a 24 under.
Chapman had the best finish for the Tars, tying for 34th at 218. Herron and Dobson both tied for 44th (219), and Clark was tied for 63rd (223). Cooper Tendick won the individual trophy with an incredible 15-under.
