DADE CITY, Fla. (April 21, 2026) - Men's golf put together a strong effort in their final round on Tuesday, jumping four spots to finish tied for third overall at the SSC Championship, which took place at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.
Monday morning's first round saw the Tars get off to a slow start, finishing at nine-over.
Mick Herron, the reigning SSC individual champion, led the charge with a 73 (+1).
Sean Dobson was one shot behind him at 74, highlighted by an eagle on the par 5 13th hole.
Clarence Chapman III and
Andrew Clark matched each other with a 75 (+3) to round out the scoring.
The afternoon session was not any better as blue boxes littered the team scorecard. Dobson birdied his first three holes of the round to jump up to the top of the individual board, but cooled down after, ending his day with a 73. Chapman also improved by a strike with his 74, helped by four birdies in the second.
Gustav Ordel was called on by Coach Frakes to take over for
Jules Haessig, and he played solidly, matching Chapman with a 74 that included 16 pars. Herron finished the team score with a 77 (+5). A ten over 226 dropped Rollins to seventh place.
Tuesday was a new day, and the Tars looked like a title contender with a fantastic team round. Dobson again led the way with four birdies en route to a two-under 70. He was matched by Ordel, who was playing in only his third event of the season. The German shot a blistering 33 on the front nine, and totaled a team-high five birdies in the final round to earn his 70. Chapman and Herron were both solid with even par 72s. Chapman had a little more color on his card with four birdies and four bogeys compared to Herron's two birds and two bogeys.
The four-under team score was the third-best of the day, and vaulted Rollins to the top of the board. Barry, who started the day in second, stumbled on their last few holes, and ended up tying with the Tars overall. Florida Southern, ranked #3 in Clippd, ran away with the title, shooting 855 (-9) for the tournament.
Dobson had the best finish for Rollins, tying for ninth place at 217 (+1). Chapman secured a Top 20 finish, tying for 17th at five over (221). Herron ended just outside the line, tied for 21st with a 222 (+6). Florida Southern's Colton Swartz was the trophy winner with an impressive 208 (-8).
The Tars now have to play the waiting game as they hope to be invited to the NCAA South Regional. The selection show will take place on April 26 on ncaa.com.
