This Week in Athletics: April 15

Final home games for men's lacrosse and women's tennis, plus a huge baseball series

April 15, 2026

Happy Fox Day #TARnation! While you're waiting in line for your free t-shirt, let's get you caught up on the latest with Tars athletics:

- Baseball has now won seven straight games following their three-game road sweep of the Barry Buccaneers, and last night's triumph at Palm Beach Atlantic. The Tars now stand at 27-9 on the season, 17-4 in conference play, and are ranked #10 in the ABCA coaches poll.

- Women's golf had a strong showing at the SSC Championship, held at Cabot Citrus Farms in Brooksville, Florida. The Tars took third-place overall, led by freshman Youyang Li. The China native took third on the individual leaderboard with a final score of 220 (+4). It is her second consecutive Top 3 finish.

- Softball swept their home series against Barry, cruising to wins of  8-0, 13-4, and 3-0. Reese Twiggs started in the circle for the two shutouts, and finished with a stat line of 13 innings, four hits, zero runs, one walk, and four strikeouts. She was named the SSC Pitcher of the Week for her efforts. Not to be outdone, Madi Carr captured SSC Player of the Week after she went 4-6 with three runs, two doubles, a home run, and six RBI.

- Men's tennis stayed hot with a dominant 6-1 victory against visiting Lynn University on Monday. The Tars swept all three doubles matches, and took five of six on the singles courts. Jay Friedman's squad has now won three straight and nine of their last ten matches.

-  Sailing claimed a third-place finish at the SAISA Women's Fleet held in Tampa on Saturday and Sunday. The Tars secured eleven Top-5 finishes in the A division, led by skipper Julia Scott and crew Adelaide Matzky. Annie Samis and Jane McKenzie went Top-5 in all ten of their B division races, including a win in the first race of the series.

- Women's tennis had a busy start to this week, facing #12 Lynn on Monday and #5 Nova Southeastern on Tuesday. After a disappointing loss to the Knights, Rollins fought hard in their matchup against the Sharks, but ultimately fell 4-3. In that match, Alyssa Novoa took down the #1 player in the country, Kristyna Hranacova, in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

- Women's lacrosse wrapped up their season with a nice win against Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday evening. A total of twelve different Tars found the net in the 13-8 victory as the senior class went out with a solid victory. Head coach Thomas Kienle wraps up his first season with a record of 10-7, featuring a brutal schedule that saw the Tars play nine ranked teams.

- Men's lacrosse secured a big win over Embry-Riddle on Wednesday, and the dropped a 12-11 nailbiter at Florida Southern on Saturday. Aaron Williams took home SSC Offensive Player of the Week honors with a total of seven goals and an assist for the week.

- In non-student action, members of the athletic staff had a strong showing at the third-annual Winter Park Charity 9 on Tuesday afternoon. Led by an incredible eagle chip-in from Senior Director of Athletic Communications Phil Chinnery, and a pair of 30+ foot putts from Associate Director of Athletic Commmunications, Haley White, the Tars finished tied for first with a score of nine-under. Other participants who tried their best included Associate AD for Sports Medicine, Paul Giannotti and women's soccer assistant coach, Laszlo van Straelen.

-Men's lacrosse wraps up their regular season at home tonight against Palm Beach Altantic. This is a big one, as the Tars could finish fourth, fifth, or seventh in the SSC standings. Fourth place means that they will host a playoff game on Saturday, April 18. Fifth place means they will hit the road for a quarterfinal matchup. Seventh place? That means the season is over. So come out and get rowdy at the 'Spur tonight at 8pm!

-Women's tennis will play their final home match of the season on Thursday against New College of Florida. Prior to the start of the match, the team's two seniors, Milla Falster and Sydney Eckstein, will be honored for their four years of dedication to the team. Congrats on a couple of great careers, ladies!

-Men's tennis will play at home twice this week as they look to get some work in before the SSC Championship at the end of the month. You can catch the boys in action on Thursday and Friday from the Tennis and Golf Center.

-Baseball (27-9, 17-4 SSC) has a MASSIVE series at home this weekend against rival #5 Tampa (30-7, 16-2 SSC). The winner of the series will be in the driver's seat for the SSC title. The Tars have not taken the conference crown since 2004, while the Spartans have won the last five in a row. In the conference stats, these two teams are 1/2 in team ERA, 1/2 in home runs, 1/2 in opponent batting average, and 1/2 in fielding percentage. We need the blue and gold to come out strong on Friday and Saturday!
---Speaking of Saturday, our friends from Orlando Health will be the official game sponsor for the doubleheader. Come out early and receive some free giveaways, ballpark snacks, and information about mental health awareness.

-Softball (24-12, 12-9 SSC) is headed to Tampa (26-8, 13-5 SSC)  for a similar three-game set that will have HUGE implications for NCAA playoff seeding. The last time these two teams met, Rollins shutout their foe 6-0, but the Spartans won the series. This should be a fun one!

-Men's golf will take their swings for a SSC title beginning on Saturday. They are also in a bit of a dry spell, with their last SSC title coming in 2003. However, Sean Dobson, Clarence Chapman III, and reigning SSC individual champion Mick Herron will look to bring home another trophy for head coach Kyle Frakes. The site of this year's championship is the beautiful Lake Jovita South course in Dade City, Florida.

-Rowing is headed to Oak Ridge, Tennessee for the Southeastern Intercollegiate Rowing Association championship. SIRA always brings out the best fo the best, and this year will be no different. A strong showing here will have the Tars primed and ready for next week's SSC Championship.

-Sailing will head west to St. Petersburg to partake in the SAISA Spring Open Fleet Championship, hosted by Eckerd College. This is the fleet's last chance to bolster their postseason resume before the National Championship in May.
