Phil Chinnery was named the Tars' Director of Athletic Communications in June 2022 following a brief stint as the Director of Media Relations at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee from November 2021-May 2022. Prior to his time as Rhodes, Phil got his start in collegiate athletics thanks to various part-time at Rollins dating back to 2015. He started as the PA announcer and statistician for the baseball team, and later took on an evening shift role as the facility supervisor for the Alfond Sports Center from September 2017- May 2019. In July 2019, he joined the Tars' staff full-time in a hybrid role for both athletic operations and communications.

In May 2024, Rollins served as co-host alongside the Greater Orlando Sports Commission for the NCAA Division II Spring Sports Festival in Orlando. Phil served as the lead for statistics and media coverage for six different national championships: M/W Golf, M/W Tennis, Women's Lacrosse, and Softball. After nine months of planning and logistics, more than 1,000 student-athletes from more than 50 schools participated in the week-long festival at various sites around the City Beautiful. During the Festival, Phil's main responsibility was serving as the official scorer for all 16 softball games that were played at Soldier's Creek Park in Longwood. 

Other hosting duties during his tenure include the 2023 and 2025 NCAA D-II M/W Tennis National Championship; the 2025 NCAA D-II South/Southeast Men's Golf Regional; the 2023 NCAA D-II Men's Lacrosse 2nd Round; and the 2023 NCAA D-II Baseball South Super Regional.

At Rhodes, Phil oversaw sports information and media for 21 varsity teams while managing one full-time assistant and a student-staff of twelve workers. During his time with the Lynx, Rhodes hosted the first round of the NCAA D-III Women's Basketball tournament as well as the Southern Athletic Association Women's Lacrosse championship..

Following his graduation from Winthrop University with a degree in sports management in 2010, Phil worked for the Florida Collegiate Summer League, a wood bat summer baseball league based out of Central Florida. He worked for the Florida League from 2010-2019 as the Director of League Operations, and oversaw an internship program that gave more than 250 college students the opportunity to gain experience in operations, sales, broadcasting, and journalism. 

Phil was born in Detroit, Michigan and is a fan of the Detroit Lions, University of Michigan, and Toronto Blue Jays. His hobbies include collecting baseball cards, playing golf, and grilling. He lives in Winter Springs with his wife Erica, and their very good boy, George the Dog.Â
