Tars Take First at SAISA Women's Top 9

MIAMI, Fla. – Rollins claimed first place at the SAISA Women's Top 9, hosted by the University of Miami. The regatta featured 420s raced in a combined scoring format.

Racing began Saturday after a slow start, as an early northerly faded to calm before a light easterly filled late in the morning. The fleet hit the water around midday, with racing getting underway at 12:30 p.m. in a shifty 4–6 knot ENE breeze that gradually built to 8–12 knots and settled by the afternoon. Ten races were completed before wrapping up around 5:30 p.m.

Sunday saw no racing, as steady squalls moved through the area throughout the day. The fleet remained ashore before competition was ultimately canceled due to a lack of improvement in conditions.

Rollins secured the win in the seven-team field with 75 total points (36 in A Division, 39 in B).

In A Division, Shay Bridge (skipper) and Soleil Aurignac (crew) recorded seven top-five finishes, highlighted by second-place results in races five and seven and wins in races six, eight, and ten.

In B Division, Julia Scott (skipper) and Jane McKenzie (crew) posted eight top-five finishes, including a runner-up finish in race two and race wins in races three, four, and nine.

The Tars return to the water April 4–5 in Charleston, S.C., for the SAISA Open Team Race Championship hosted by the College of Charleston.
