WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Tars took to the water for the Lake Virginia Invitational this weekend, winning their home regional regatta for the second straight year while debuting the program's new fleet of FJs.
The event featured a two-division scoring format with eight teams making up the field. Saturday saw eight races completed in each division through a light and shifty northerly breeze around 8–10 knots. Similar conditions followed on day two, allowing six more races in each division to be completed Sunday and bringing the weekend total to 14.
Rollins claimed the team title with 71 points, tallying 31 in A Division and 40 in B. The Tars finished 16 points clear of second-place Florida State to secure their second consecutive Lake Virginia Invitational victory.
Caleb Kinnear served as skipper throughout the event in A Division, joined by
Mollie Wood as crew for the opening six races. The duo posted five top-four finishes during that stretch, highlighted by three consecutive race wins in races two through four.
Cameron Kinnear joined Caleb for the remaining eight races, with the duo finishing inside the top five in each of their races together. The Kinnears tallied five victories, taking race seven before closing the regatta with a string of wins in the final four races of the event.
In B Division, skipper
Jack Adderley and crew
Alexander Goldsmith remained together throughout the Invitational. The duo finished inside the top four in 12 of 14 races, collecting four victories along the way in races two, 10, 12 and 13.
Rollins returns to the water next weekend for the SAISA Fall Fleet Race Championships, held Friday, Oct. 30 through Sunday, Nov. 1 in Charleston, South Carolina.
