SAINT LEO, Fla. (February 17, 2028) - Men's golf overcame a tough first round by going under-par in their next two attempts, giving them a Top 8 finish at the Saint Leo Invitational at Lake Jovita South.
Monday's morning round saw the tournament attendees face wet conditions following Sunday evening's storm.
Jules Haessig led the early charge, using an eagle on 13 and a birdie on five to score even par 72.
Clarence Chapman III was one shot behind him with a 73 thanks to a three-birdie effort. Sen Dobson and
Mick Herron rounded out the team scoring with a 74 each. Each player also had three birdies in their first attempt at Lake Jovita.
Round two started on Monday, but did not end until Tuesday morning due to darkness. Thankfully, the Tars were unphased by the extended time, shooting four-under as a team. Dobson was the top dog in round two, using four birdies and twelve pars to cash in with a two-under 70. Chapman again found himself one shot behind his teammate, using four birdies of his own to score a 71.
Andrew Clark led the team in birdies in round two with five, and matched Chapman's score. Herron then rounded out the team score with an even 72.
Dobson stayed hot in the afternoon session, shooting a season-low 67 thanks to six birdies, eleven pars, and one bogey. The junior Brit shot a 33 on the back and a 34 on the front as he had the entire bag working. He had the third-lowest score of the day out of 100 players. Chapman settled into his two-hole position with an even 72 effort, which was matched by Haessig. Similar to round one, Herron was the final scorer for the Tars with a one-over 73.
Rollins ended the tournament with a three-under 861 (293-284-284), good for eighth place. The Florida Southern Mocs took the trophy with an impressive 839 (-25). Saint Leo was second, followed by Nova Southeastern, Lynn, and Lee to round out the Top 5.
Dobson has the best finish for the Tars, tying for 14th with his 211 (-5). Chapman tied for 34th with an even par 216. Nino Palmquist of D-I South Florida took the individual title as an independent, shooting a 202 (-14). Max Barile of Florida Southern was the top D-II player with a 205 (-11).
Rollins will take a couple of weeks off before venturing to Valdosta State for the Southeastern Intercollegiate from Kinderlou Forest on March 9 and 10.
