Volleyball finally plays at home; men's golf tees it up for the first time

September 23, 2025

Greetings #TARnation!

We had seven teams competing last week, so let's dive right in to your weekly recap!

- Waterski saw their first action of the season, facing off against Florida Southern in the annual meetup at the Jack Travers Ski School in Groveland, Florida. Charlie Ross stood out from the pack by setting a collegiate national record during his slalom run, clearing one buoy at 43 off. For those who aren't familiar with ski scoring ... that's really hard to do! The Tars also took first place in men's tricks (Pablo Font) and women's tricks (Hannah Stopnicki).

- Volleyball (10-2) wrapped up their third and final tournament of the season with a clean 4-0 sweep at the Concord Classic in West Virginia. The Tars secured wins against Winston-Salem State, Davis & Elkins, West Virginia Wesleyan, and Concord. Makayla Moran and Marta Tsavena were both named to the All-Tournament team after combining for more than 70 kills and 30 blocks.

- Men' soccer (3-1-1) earned a 2-0 road victory at Embry-Riddle in a non-SSC contest on Wednesday. Justin Nelson scored both goals for the Tars, giving him a team-high four on the young season. Kilian Vallant was solid in goal, posting his second clean sheet of the year with six saves.

- Women's soccer (4-1) suffered their first loss of the year in a 1-0 slugfest at USC Beaufort. Despite the loss, Rollins has been phenomenal on defense thus far, allowing only two goals to their opponents in five games.

- Sailing hosted the SAISA Women's Top 9 on the waters of Lake Virginia, and found themselves with a runner-up finish for the event, netting 145 points. Part of the crew was also in Charleston, SC for the SAISA Match Race Championship, helping the Tars to 5th-place in the table.

- Women's golf was the only Division II team to tee it up at the Nittany Lion Invitational, hosted by Penn State. The Tars finished 9th of 16 teams, with Lindsay Lee having the top individual finish, coming in 31st place with a 225 (+9).

- The swim team kicked off their 2025-26 season with the annual alumni meet on Saturday, welcoming back former Tars and seeing what this year's squad is primed to do. It was a lovely day at the Alfond Pool as coach Walker Thaning also honored his record breaking swimmer's from last year's squad with new nameplates on the record board outside the clubhouse.

- Volleyball (10-2) will make their home debut on Wednesday against Flagler (4-8) starting at 6pm. The TARPit will have a table set up outside Warden Arena with information about the Green Bandana Project, which assists with Suicide Prevention Awareness. After that, it's back on the road as Rollins opens SSC play against Embry-Riddle (7-3) and Florida Tech (5-3). The Tars are one of four teams in the SSC with 10 wins to their name this season so far, leading the conference in sets played, kills, and blocks.

- Men's soccer (3-1-1) kicks off their conference slate with a road date at Tech (2-0-2) on Wednesday, followed by a home match versus Barry (2-1-2) on Saturday. The lads rank third in the SSC in assists and fourth in goals. A fun note ... Rollins has a slight advantage in all-time record vs. Barry, going 23-22-4 against the Bucs since 1985.

- Women's soccer (4-1) is the reverse of the men's team as they will host Tech (3-1-2) on Wednesday before traveling south to Barry (3-1-2) on Saturday. Rollins has scored the second-most goals in the SSC so far (12), and are tied for allowing the fewest (2). Emma McMurry is tied for the SSC lead in goals with four.

- Both the men's and women's swim teams will officially open their season on Friday as they host the University of North Florida Ospreys. The first race starts at 3:00 pm at the Alfond Pool, located behind the Campus Center.

- Sailing will once again chop their crew in two, with the mix team headed to Charleston and the women headed to Mount St. Mary's for the ACC first round.

- Men's golf will tee it up for the first time this season, continuing their tradition of playing in the Jay Jennison Cup, hosted by Flagler. Last year, the Tars took second place overall, and had three golfers finish in the top five individually. Those three ... RJ Glod, Andrew Clark, and Sean Dobson ... are all back for one last ride with the Tars.
