Women's Rowing

Success in the Peach State – Five for Five

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (March 22, 2025) – The Rollins Women had a great day of racing at the John Ferriss Lanier Sprints Regatta despite another adverse day of wind. Rollins brough home gold medals in all five events Varsity 8, Novice 8, Varsity 4 (flight 1), Varsity 4 (flight 2) and the Novice 4. The women definitely handled the 10-20 mph winds much better than they have in previous weeks which contributed to today's success.

The Novice 8 began the day racing in a heat where they needed to place in the top two to move to the grand finals at the end of the day. The Tars finished 32 seconds ahead of the second-place boat, University of Georgia B. The Novice 8 (Kailin Liang, Elizabeth Hanna, Angelique Harrington, Liesel Hartwig, Alena Logan, Maria Jose Florez, Aleeza Sheik, Falland Delice, Serenity Rosier) lined up against the Georgia A boat as well as Georgia Tech's A and B boats in the grand finals. Rollins crossed the line nine seconds ahead of Georgia, 28 and 52 seconds ahead of the two Georgia Tech boats.

The Women's Varsity 8 (Maria Littman, Abby Klesa, Kinsley Sparks, Olivia Prelog, Maria Carla Gutierrez, Sofia Prieto, Sophie Bolan, Khloe Smith, Lillian Groves) had one race earlier in the day and took care of business. Rollins jumped to an early lead and never looked back. The order of finish was Rollins, Illinois (+6 seconds), Liberty (+17 seconds), Georgia Tech (+23 seconds), Georgia (+52 seconds) and Gamecock Rowing (+95 seconds).

Some of the women doubled into fours maintaining the same success they had in the eights.   The first varsity four (Littman, Klesa, Gutierrez, Prelog, Bolan) posted the fastest time in the three flights (13 boats total). The women's novice 4 (Liang, Hanna, Harrington, Florez, Logan) also posted the fastest time of the two fights (nine boats total). The times in these events were not great due to the conditions which threw 20+ mph wind gusts at them.

The second women's varsity 4 won their event posting the 4th fastest time in the four heats earning them a gold medal.

Rollins is in Sarasota next Saturday for the FIRA Championships. The team looks to build on this weekend's success, strives to make up ground on some of the Florida teams that are ahead of them and keep their eye on SIRA (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) which is just a short three weeks away.
