MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference presents the 2024 softball postseason awards. Thirty-nine student-athletes from 10 member institutions are recognized as All-Conference. Voting for the All-SSC softball awards was conducted among the league's head coaches.
Rollins saw five of their athletes earn recognition for their efforts this season.Â
Ashley Worrell was named first team as a pitcher following a phenomenal season. She led the SSC in innings (184.1), shutouts (10), and opponent batting average (.152). She was also second in wins (21), second in strikeouts (159), third in ERA (0.99), and third in complete games (18). During the end of the schedule, she tossed five straight complete game shutouts, and had a streak of 43 straight scoreless innings.Â
Grace Germer joins Worrell on the first team at the shortstop position. She was the top overall hitter on the Tars, and also had a strong showing in the SSC ranks. Grace led the conference in runs with 50, and was second in stolen bases with 34. Her .367 average ranked fifth-best, her .428 on-base percentage was tenth-best, and her .544 slugging percentage was fourth-best. Germer also ended up second in total bases (86) and fourth in hits (58).
Taylor Waters earned second team honors for the second consecutive season. She appeared in all 48 games for the Tars, slashing .308/.386/.425 while collecting 45 hits, 27 runs, 32 RBI, eight doubles, three home runs, and 15 stolen bases. She came through a number of times late in games with big hits, giving the Tars late leads. Her 32 RBI were the eighth-most in the SSC.Â
Brie Michelli took a spot on the second team as the third baseman following her breakout campaign. Brie also played in every game for Rollins, posting a slash line of .275/.327/.396. She had 41 hits, 27 runs, 22 RBI, nine doubles, three home runs, and 15 steals.Â
Sarah Young locked in an outfield spot on the second team as well. Yet another member of the "played-in-every-game" club, Young hit .311 with a .365 OBP and .402 slugging percentage. She had 41 hits, 15 runs, 20 RBI, nine doubles, and one home run. Young was extremely consistent at the plate, striking out only eight times in 132 at bats this season.Â
Madyson Coe of Saint Leo was named Player of the Year. The Pitcher of the Year award went to Tampa's Kate DeSimone, Maliyah Lawson from Nova Southeastern was the Freshman of the Year, and Barry's Sean Cotter was named Coach of the Year.Â
