Tars Finish Third at Lynn Invitational

Rollins took third in a field of eleven teams

BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 26-27, 2024) - Women's golf wrapped up their third tournament of the spring on Tuesday afternoon, playing the third round of the Lynn Invitational at Boca Woods Country Club. With a final score of 882, the Tars took home a third-place finish.

Dallas Baptist, the top-ranked team in D-II, took home the title with an impressive 863 (-1), the only team to shoot under par for the event. Keiser took second, finishing one shot ahead of Rollins with a 881. After the Tars in third, Barry took fourth (884), and Lynn (886) rounded out the top five.

Rollins started the event Monday morning with a solid 290 in the first round. A pair of Tars, Elizabeth Kondal and Carla Alvarez, turned in cards of 70 (-2). Kondal was good for fourteen pars and three birdies, while Alvarez led the team with four birdies, three bogeys and eleven pars. Olivia Tamburlini played to a 73 (+1), and Berni Villalba rounded out the scoring with a 77 (+5). This was the third round under par for Kondal, and the first for Alvarez this spring. Rollins sat in fourth place after one.

The Tars added two shots to their team total in the afternoon session, posting a 292. Alvarez stayed hot with a 71 (-1) that included 15 pars and two birdies. Tamburlini matched her first round score of 73 with four birdies, five bogeys and nine pars. Kondal and Megan Docherty each closed with a 74 (+2) to round out the team score. Despite the larger score for the round, the Tars found themselves sitting in second place on the team leaderboard.

Rollins has been great at closing all year, but things did not seem to click on Tuesday for round three. The team score of 300 gave them their final tally of 882, placing them third overall. Sophia Fondenaer actually had the best round of the day with a 71 (four birdies), but was playing as an independent, so her score did not apply to the team leaderboard. Tamburlini led the charge on the team end with a 74, putting her at 15th overall with a 220. Kondal shot a 75 (+3) on the day, finishing with a 219 (+3), good for a tie for tenth. Docherty matched her 75 to end with a 226. Alvarez closed out the scoring with a 76, which brought her final tally to 217 (+1). That earned her a tie for third place overall.

"After battling hard the first two rounds, we just seemed flat today," remarked head coach Julie Garner. "We had some good individual performances in certain spots, but that's not good enough to succeed in a field like this. We have some players who need to embrace the challenge, improve on fundamentals, and have a better mindset under pressure. All that being said, it was a great tournament and a competitive experience for our team."

Rollins has now finished fourth or better in all three of their spring tournaments.

Next up for the Tars is the annual Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational, hosted by Rollins. This year's event will be played at Orange Tree Country Club in Orlando on Monday March 11 and Tuesday March 12.
