LAKELAND, Fla. (February 20, 2024) - Women's golf took home their second Top-5 finish in as many tries, landing in fourth place at the 2024 Lady Moc Classic hosted by Florida Southern at Grasslands Golf & Country Club.
The Nova Southeastern Sharks were the tournament champions with a 291/297/294-882 (+18). Anderson University came in second with an 886, Flagler third with an 887, the Tars in fourth at 304/296/297-897, and the host Mocs rounding out the top-five with an 899.
Ana Maria Jimenez Rios of Tampa took the individual title with a 74/69/71-214 (-2).
Elizabeth Kondal was the top finisher for Rollins, carding a 73/73/73-219, good for a fourth place tie with two others. It is the second straight top-four finish for Kondal.
Rollins got off to a tough start on Monday as they slogged through wet conditions to score a 304.
Berni Villalba was the team leader in the first round with a par 72, tying her for 8th overall. She shot three birdies, three bogeys, and twelve pars in the round. Kondal was one shot behind her with a 73 that included three birdies and four bogeys.
Megan Docherty checked in with a 78, and
Carla Alvarez rounded out the team score with an 81.
The second round started on Monday afternoon, but was suspended due to darkness. The Tars played like a different team in the second set, posting a team score of 296, an eight-shot improvement. Kondal stayed consistent with her 73, this time carding 14 pars and two birdies. Docherty joined her with a 73, shaving five strokes off her first round thanks to two birdies and 14 pars as well. Villalba played a consistent round of 74 with 15 pars, and
Olivia Tamburlini added a 76 with a team round-best four birdies.
When they started round three, Rollins was in sixth place. During Tuesday's final session, the Tars shot a 297 and moved up to fourth by the end of the day. Once again, it was Kondal leading the charge with a 73, matching her first round output of three birdies and four bogeys. Alvarez took a big jump from her previous score of 79 and shot a 74 (+2) with a team-high four birdies. Villalba and Docherty each handed in a 75 to finish things up for Rollins.
Villalba's 38 total birdies were the second-highest number of any player in the field, while Kondal ha the eighth-best scoring average on Par 4s with a 4.07.
Next up for Rollins is the Lynn Invitational at Boca Woods Country Club in Boca Raton. Teams will tee off on Monday, February 26.
