Tars Take Down Tech in Completion of Suspended Game

Rollins scored just minutes before the game was suspended and held on for the 1-0 win

Kayla Park scored the lone goal of the game
Box Score MELBOURNE, Fla. (Oct. 5, 2024) – The Rollins women's soccer team completed its suspended game Florida Tech on Saturday, with the Tars holding on for a 1-0 win over the Panthers. The game was suspended on September 25 partway through the second half with the Tars leading 1-0 on a Kayla Park goal that came just minutes prior to the suspension of the contest. With the win, Rollins is now 6-1-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while the Panthers, who were ranked 24th when the game began and are currently listed 19th in the national poll, fall to 5-2 overall, 2-1 in SSC action.

Park finished as the lone goal scorer of the game and was responsible for three of the Tars' five shots. Lauren Mehos (3-1-1) made six saves to earn her first clean sheet of the season.

Back on September 25th, the start of the game, which was moved up to 1 p.m. in an effort to avoid incoming inclement weather related to Hurricane Helene, was delayed by approximately an hour due to the weather. Once the game got started, neither side was able to find a scoring touch in the first 45 minutes, with Florida Tech outshooting Rollins 8-4, with just three total shots on goal, two of which came from the Panthers.

In the second half, FT put two shots on frame in the span of 30 seconds, but Lauren Mehos was able to come up with the save both times. Just over a minute later, Park delivered the only goal of the day, scoring in the 54th minute to make it 1-0 Tars. About two minutes of game time after that, the match was suspended with 33:55 left on the clock.

When the game resumed on Saturday evening, it took over 12 minutes before either side took a shot, with Mehos making the first of two saves in the final half-hour to keep the Panthers off the board. Florida Tech attempted all four shots after the resumption of play, but the Blue and Gold held strong defensively to earn the 1-0 victory.
