Harutunian the Hero in Late Win Over Lynn

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Tars snuck past the Fighting Knights at The Spur on Wednesday, using a late goal from Sophia Harutunian to seal a 1-0 victory.

Rollins opened the match with pressure, using its possession to stay high in the attacking half and creating the first shot on goal off the foot of Gabby Boyd.

Tensions escalated quickly when Amanda Caines battled a Lynn attacker for a long ball. The Fighting Knights were shown a red card following the challenge in the ninth minute, forcing Lynn to play the remainder of the match with 10 players.

Another opportunity came for the Tars in the 15th minute after earning a free kick along the sideline in their attacking third. Rollins worked the ball into the box, but an offside call ended the threat and kept the match scoreless.

The Tars regained possession minutes later, earning a pair of corners that resulted in another look at goal. Emma McMurry got her head on the delivery, but the Lynn keeper made the save. McMurry added another attempt shortly after that sailed wide as the opportunities continued to come for Rollins with the player advantage.

McMurry picked up a yellow card later in the half as both teams continued to play physically. The Tars piled up opportunities through free kicks and corners, consistently putting the ball into dangerous areas but coming away empty despite controlling much of the possession.

The Fighting Knights came out of halftime looking to flip the momentum, creating a handful of attacking opportunities and finally forcing Lauren Mehos into action following a quiet opening half.

Lynn earned a corner in the 54th minute, with a header forcing Mehos to lay out and get just enough of the ball to preserve the scoreless tie. Mehos came through again moments later, punching away another dangerous ball into the box as the Fighting Knights continued to threaten.

Both teams battled through the midfield as the half progressed, with Lynn forcing another save from Mehos with just under 20 minutes remaining. Rollins responded with another shot on goal from Chloe Milton as substitutions on both sides looked to provide a spark with time winding down.

The physicality continued as Ella Richardson was shown a yellow card, with neither side willing to give much ground in the closing minutes.

Perhaps Rollins' best opportunity came in the 82nd minute when the Tars fired three consecutive shots toward goal. The first rattled off the crossbar, the second was blocked by a defender, and the third forced a full-extension save from the Lynn keeper.

Despite coming away empty, the sequence swung the momentum firmly back toward Rollins. The Tars quickly regained possession, with Zahira Freeman finding Boyd across the middle. Boyd then connected with Harutunian, who buried the chance into the bottom right corner to finally break the stalemate and give Rollins the late 1-0 advantage.

The final seven minutes tested the Rollins defense, but the Tars held firm to preserve the clean sheet and secure the 1-0 victory.

Lynn falls to 4-4-1 overall and 0-3-1 in SSC play, while Rollins improves to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in conference action. The Tars return to the road on Saturday when they travel to Lakeland to take on Florida Southern at 7:00 pm.
