MELBOURNE, Fla. (May 2, 2023) – The Sunshine State Conference announced its 2023 Women's Lacrosse Awards and All-Conference Teams on Tuesday, with four Rollins student-athletes among the 33 that were honored.
Caroline Gastonguay and
Abigail Cawley each earned a spot on the first team, while
Bridget Cawley and
Claire Barber received recognition on the second team. Gastonguay and Barber were also both named to the SSC All-Tournament Team after Sunday's championship game.
Gastonguay was ranked among the top 10 in the SSC in five major categories, including caused turnovers/game (1.56), points/game (4.50, 3rd), ground balls/game (2.44), assists/game (1.67, 6th), and goals/game (2.83, 7th). Her 10-point game against Limestone on Feb. 11 was tied for the third-highest point total in a game in the SSC this year, and her six assists in that contest were also the third-most in a game in the league this season.
Abigail Cawley finished the season tied for the league lead in assists/game at 2.67, and her 48 assists were ranked eighth in NCAA II. She also ranked second in the SSC in points/game (4.67) and was 12th in the conference in goals (36). Her 11-point outing against Grand Valley State on Feb. 18 was tied for the most points in a game by an SSC player this year, while her seven assists that day were the second-most in a game this season.
Bridget Cawley was a dominant force defensively for the Tars, causing 18 turnovers and collecting 28 ground balls, both second-most on the team. She recorded at least one ground ball in 13 games and one or more caused turnovers in 11 games, including a massive game against Alabama - Huntsville where she registered five ground balls and four caused turnovers to lead the Tars to a 14-4 win on March 15.
Barber ended the season ranked second in the SSC in goals against average (9.79), fourth in save percentage (.436), and fifth in saves/game (5.93). She went 7-3 on the year, making 10+ saves three times, including a career-best 14 saves in an 18-12 road win at No. 22 Saint Leo on April 19.
