Tars Fall to No. 11 Saint Leo

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 28, 2026) – No. 14 Rollins women's lacrosse fell to No. 11 Saint Leo, 22-13, on Saturday afternoon at Cahall-Sandspur Field.

Chloe Pierini led the Tars offensively with four goals and an assist, while Audrey Grace Mumford added a hat trick. Fiona Rizzo contributed a multi-goal performance, and Delanie Abere, Delaney Hudson, Gabby Yerardi, and Tess Hovivian each found the back of the cage.

Defensively, Ava Capasso led Rollins with four ground balls, while Sydney Nickel recorded a team-high three caused turnovers. Holyn Trautwein paced the Tars with four draw controls. In goal, Alyssa Lentz and Angelina Vitale split time, combining for seven saves.

Saint Leo opened the scoring, but Rollins answered quickly as Abere converted on a woman-up opportunity off a feed from Hudson. The Lions responded with a three-goal run to take control early before Mumford finished a pass from Abere to halt the momentum.

After a Saint Leo goal extended the lead, Mumford struck again off an assist from Yerardi to keep Rollins within reach. Hudson added a late goal in the opening quarter, trimming the deficit to one heading into the second.

Mumford opened the second quarter by completing her hat trick with an unassisted equalizer. Nickel then forced a turnover that led to Pierini giving Rollins its first lead of the day. Saint Leo responded immediately, scoring three consecutive goals and adding another later in the period to regain control. Yerardi converted a free-position opportunity late in the half, sending the Tars into the break trailing by two.

Saint Leo opened the third quarter with two quick goals to extend its advantage. Pierini answered with a free-position score, but the Lions followed with another three-goal run to create separation. Pierini added her second of the half, and Rollins continued to battle with goals from Rizzo and Hovivian, the latter coming on a woman-up opportunity off a Gagnon assist, but Saint Leo closed the quarter with two goals to take a 17-11 lead into the final frame.

The Lions added two more early in the fourth to extend the margin. Pierini connected with Rizzo for a Rollins goal, and later added her fourth of the day, but Saint Leo maintained control down the stretch, closing the contest with two final goals to secure the 22-13 victory.

Rollins falls to 9-3 overall and 0-2 in Sunshine State Conference play, while Saint Leo improves to 9-3 (1-1 SSC). The Tars return to action Wednesday, April 1, hosting No. 5 Tampa at 7:30 p.m. in Winter Park.
