Men’s Swimming Knocks Off Ave Maria

Rollins won all 13 events on Friday

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Jan. 13, 2023) – The Rollins men's swimming team earned its second win of the season in dominant fashion on Friday, defeating visiting NAIA No. 20 Ave Maria by a score of 213-26. The Tars are now 2-6 in dual meets this year, while the Gyrenes drop to 0-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Tars took first place in each and every event on Friday, sweeping the top three positions in eight events.
  • Rollins got started with a sweep of the 200-yard medley relay, led by William Slowey, Tommy Hirsch, Cameron Dolly, and Tully Njoroge clocking a winning time of 1:41.10.
  • Graham Smith won the first individual race, the 200-yard freestyle, in 1:49.57, with Luke Dinges (1:51.49) and Reeves Fisackerly (1:53.81) taking second and third, respectively.
  • Slowey (54.03), Dolly (56.36), and Trey Carter (56.69) swept the 100-yard backstroke.
  • In the 100-yard breaststroke, Colin McNew (1:02.98) and Hirsch (1:03.39) took the top two spots.
  • The Tars swept the 200-yard butterfly as well, with Samuel Brisch (2:02.36), Daniel Liew (2:03.19), and Dalton Husketh (2:09.93) claiming the top three spots.
  • Chance Ricca (22.10) and Cruse Sweeney (22.50) were the top two finishers in the 50-yard freestyle.
  • Slowey was first in the 100-yard freestyle in 49.07, while Connor Xu took third in 50.31.
  • Andrew Haapala (2:07.02), Patrick Lester (2:10.58), and Hirsch (2:13.79) were the first three to touch the wall in the 200-yard backstroke.
  • The 200-yard breaststroke saw Skylar Murphy (2:20.70), Michael Tucker (2:22.27), and Jac Reville (2:30.87) sweep the podium.
  • Ricca (4:55.43) and Liew (5:05.89) took first and second in the 500-yard freestyle.
  • Rollins swept the podium in the 100-yard butterfly thanks to Xu (52.70), Smith (54.84), and Diego Spielmann (56.14).
  • Dolly won the final individual event, the 200-yard individual medley, in 2:07.12, while Nicholas Bonta placed third in 2:11.71.
  • The Tars ended the day like they started, sweeping the top three spots in the final relay event, the 200-yard freestyle relay, led by a winning time of 1:30.53 from Njoroge, Lester, Hirsch, and Slowey.
