GREENWOOD, SC (September 27, 2022) - The Rollins waterski team had one final tune-up before competing in next month's national championship. The Tars traveled to South Carolina last weekend to compete in the South & Atlantic Coastal regional championship, hosted by Clemson University.
In the slalom, freshman
Will Bruzzese led the way with a fourth-place finish. He scored a 103.00 after reaching one buoy at 38 feet off-rope. Not far behind him was
Topher Hummel, who finished in eighth place and a score of 98.00. Hummel skied two buoys at 35-off. Other male competitors included
Jerome Verbaet (91.50),
Collin Diviak (91.50) and
Robby Allen (83.00). On the women's side,
Charlsey Newman was the Tars' top finisher and ninth overall with a score of 86.50. Right behind her in tenth was
Peke Angulo, who carded an 83.00 after reaching five buoys at 28-off.
Dar Bejerano (74.00) and
Mia Morgan (69.00) were the other competitors for the women.
Hummel was the top tricker for Rollins, posting a fifth-place finish with 2,340 points. Diviak was right behind him in seventh with 2,370 points, while Allen also carded a top ten finish with 1,840 points.
Nathan Cherry and
Jerome Verbaet also competed for the Tars. Bejerano and Newman tied each other for ninth place on the women's side with scores of 910. Morgan and Angulo were the other Tars in action.
Finally, in the jump, Hummel had the top score for Rollins after flying 104 feet. Diviak was next in line at 100 feet, followed by Allen (56 feet) and Verbaet (48 feet). For the women,
Charlsey Newman placed third after an impressive jump of 118 feet.
Dar Bejerano was the only other female to compete for the Tars in the jump.
