Rollins Brings Home Five Medals from Knecht Cup

The Rollins men’s rowing team enjoyed a successful day of racing on Sunday at the Knecht Cup

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (April 10, 2022) – The Rollins men's rowing team enjoyed a successful day of racing on Sunday at the Knecht Cup. The Tars picked up five medals, including a gold in the Men's Division II Varsity 8.

Rollins opened the day by earning a fourth-place finish in the Men's Single, posting a time of 8:14.73, and a fourth-place result in the Men's Lightweight 4 in 7:53.59.
 
The Novice 4 boat earned the Tars first medal of the day, capturing second place in the Grand Final with a time of 7:09.97.  Rollins capitalized on mistakes by the Rhode Island boat to best the Rams by less than a second.  Neither crew knew who had earned second place, and the teams had to wait for results to be posted to find out their final positions
 
The Men's Division II Varsity 4 also earned a second-place finish in their event final.  The boat crossed the line in 7:20.84, behind the winners, Adrian, but 11 second ahead of the third place challenger.
 
The Tars Novice 8 earned a third place result in their Grand Final.  Virginia won the event, while Rollins and Michigan battled for second, with the Wolverines just getting in front of the Tars by one second at the line.
 
Rollins dominated the final event of the day, the Men's Division II Varsity 8 race.  Rollins earned a one, two finish.  The Tars' A Boat crossed the line in 6:34.23, ten seconds ahead of the Tars' B Boat, who took silver with a time of 6:44.40.

WHAT COACH SAID:
"The conditions were nothing close to favorable but our teams handled them as well as anyone.   Each of our crews battled hard and earned some hardware to show for it.  I was proud of our performances this weekend."
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will make the trek to Oak Ridge, Tennessee to take part in the SIRA Regatta April 15-16.
