Tars Tally Successful Spring Break Race

Rollins rowed to victory in five of the seven races they were entered in at the Rollins Spring Break Race

WINTER PARK, Fla (March 19, 2022) – Rollins rowed to victory in five of the seven races they were entered in at the Rollins Spring Break Race.   The weather and water provided perfect conditions, and a number of Tars rowed in two or three races, as Rollins continues training and working towards the Championships in April.

The first boat to take the water was the Women's Division II Fours, rowing against Tampa.   The Tars had a couple stumbles that allowed the Spartans to erase an early lead and take the first race of the day.

Rollins got back on track with the Varsity 8, Varsity 4, and Varsity 4 "B" boats all posting solid races, taking early leads and never letting up on their push. The boats registered good races times into a slight head wind.

The Women's Novice 8 rowed an incredibly poised race for being their first time in this line-up.  Tampa rowed high and hard off the line and both boats were bow ball to bow ball through the 500m buoys.  Rollins stuck to their race plan and took the lead by the 1000 meter mark of the race.   Tampa made one last push just through the 1500m buoys but Rollins was not going to give up their lead finishing 6.8 seconds ahead of the Spartans.

In the Novice 4 race Rollins and Tampa were settling into an even race when the crosswind pushed Rollins a little too far to the left causing the port blades to get hung up on the buoy.   The women worked hard to get themselves back into the race but the deficit caused by the buoy proved just too much

The Women's Novice 4 "B" rowed to gold to finish up the day for the Women's Rowing Team.

"Like every crew's spring break training week, the athletes were not rested going into this race.  It is so early in the season and the northern schools have hardly touched the water." mentioned Coach Pistor.  "These races are training, and the experience we gained today is invaluable as we look to April."

UP NEXT:
Rollins will travel to Melbourne, Florida to race Florida Tech next Saturday, March 26.
