TAMPA, Fla. (March 17, 2021) – Rollins was unable to defeat the Tampa Spartans on the road Wednesday evening, falling 2-1. The loss is the first for the Tars in their spring season, and they sit at 1-1 overall. Tampa stays perfect at 3-0 overall.
Â
Meghan Mosley tallied her second goal in as many games to lead the Rollins offense.Â
Mackenzie Fazio tallied her first collegiate point in the form of an assist.Â
Noel Miller and
Elena Beasley combined for a pair of saves.
Â
The first half was played evenly, and neither team was able to find a breakthrough. Rollins fired four shots to the Spartans two. Rollins put three shots on goal, while Tampa only forced one save from Miller.
Â
Rollins upped the intensity in the second half, but it was Tampa that found the back of the net first. The Spartans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in 51
st minute on a long-distance free kick that beat the outstretched hand of
Elena Beasley. The Tars would equalize 20 minutes later, setting up an exciting conclusion to the contest. Fazio stole the ball off a Spartan and ran at the Tampa backline before slotting a ball to Mosley who poked it into the Spartan goal. Tampa would find the winner with just five minutes remaining in the game, executing a pacey counter attack, that left three Tars defending four Spartans. Despite the Tars best efforts in the final minutes, Rollins could not find any late game magic of their own, falling 2-1.
