Hutton all came through with home runs as the Tars never
trailed and defeated No. 14 Tampa 12-11, Friday evening. The Tars
won for the first time at Tampa since a 3-1 win on Feb. 8,
2005.
Evan
Rivera went 1-for-4 with three runs batted in and a double, Christian
Coburn went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three
stolen bases, giving the senior 40 on the year (one shy of tying
the Division II lead). Nick
Breen went 1-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Ashline,

Garmendia, Michael
Dolan, Hutton, Burket, Skip Kovar and Peter
Nicoletto all added one hit to give Rollins 11 on the
night.
Matthew
Tulley got the start and went 4.2 innings allowing just three
earned runs (seven total) on six hits and four strikeouts. Matt
Hendricks received the win and is now 7-3 on the year after
allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits.
The Tars got off the bat quickly in the top of the first as
Garmendia singled up the middle, scoring Coburn to give Rollins the
1-0 lead. Nick
Breen doubled while Garmendia scored on a error by left field.
Dolan singled up the middle and scored Breen to give Rollins the
3-0 lead. One batter later Burket picked up his third home run of
the year on a two-run shot to center field as Rollins led 5-0.
Tampa came back with one run on one hit in the first inning and
scored a total of four unanswered runs on four hits as the Tars
lead was cut to 5-4.
Following a leadoff single by Coburn, Ashline hit his second
home run of the year to right field on a two-run shot, scoring
Coburn as Rollins led 7-4. Nick
Breen then advanced on a error and scored on a passed ball.
Four batters later, a bases clearing double by Rivera made it
11-4.
In the fifth inning Tampa did not give up as the Spartans scored
three runs on one hit and one Tars error, shifting momentum back
and forth as Rollins held onto a 11-7 lead.
Tampa scored four more runs in the seventh inning on three hits
and one Tars error tying the game for the first time at 11-11.
Pitch-hitting for Dolan, Blake
Hutton stepped in the batters box and on a 2-1 pitch hit his
second home run of the year, blasting one to right field, which was
the game-winner lifting Rollins to their first win at Tampa since
2005.
Rollins had 11 hits in the game and improve to 21-26-1 and
6-15-1 in the SSC. Tampa falls to 33-13 on the season.
**The last time any Rollins player had 40 stolen bases in a
season was Shawn Pender who had 62 stolen bases in 1984.
The Tars play No. 14 Tampa for a double-header beginning
Saturday, May 2 at 1 p.m.
