WINTER PAR, Fla. (February 17, 2012) - In the
second game of the series against Bentley, the Rollins Tars
baseball team locked in a 7-2 victory over the Falcons Friday
evening at Alfond Stadium. Rollins now improves to 5-3 on the
season with all five wins coming at home.
Kevin
Mager registered team-bests of two hits and three RBIs, along
with a run scored and a walk. Hunter
Mayfield had one hit off the Falcons with a pair of RBIs, two
runs scored and a stolen base.
Both teams went scoreless through three innings before Bentley
took the 1-0 lead in the fourth. Rollins then answered back with
five runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Bentley (0-5) found themselves in a bit of a jam committing two
errors in the frame, while giving up three hits and a pair of
walks. Brian
Lattanzi got things rolling with a double down the left field
line. After Anthony
Figliolia drew a walk, Boston
Langley loaded the bases reaching on an error by the Falcons
shortstop. Figliolia and Lattanzi then scored on a single through
the right side. Bases were loaded once again with only one out and
Langley crossed the plate as Zach
Persky reached on another defensive miscue by the Falcons. Nick
Adams and Mayfield scored the final runs of the inning on a
single to center.
Rollins then tacked on another run in the seventh and the final
run of the game came in the eighth. Mager scored the Tars' run in
the seventh on a sacrifice fly, while Mayfield scored in the eighth
on a Mager RBI single. The Falcons scored their only other run in
the top of the seventh.
In his third start of the season, Taylor
Smith (1-0) earned the win in eight innings of work. He struck
out five, walked two and gave up one earned run.
The Falcons starting pitcher, John Yohe (0-2) was saddled with
the loss in five innings on the bump. Yohe recorded two strikeouts
and walked four, while allowing five runs scored.
Rollins will be back in action Saturday, February 18 for game
three of the series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. Fans can catch
