WINTER PAR, Fla. (February 19, 2012) - Despite
being outhit by the Falcons, Rollins captured a 5-3 victory over
Bentley for a sweep in the four-game set Sunday afternoon at Alfond
Stadium.
Second baseman Josh
Band had a team-best three hits, to go along with a run scored
and a stolen base. Zach
Persky and Brandon
Curson each had two hits. Persky added a pair of runs and
Curson tallied an RBI, a double and a stolen base.
The Tars are now 7-3 on the season, while Bentley has struggled
to get that first win of the season, now at 0-7. Rollins has also
climbed in the Sunshine State Conference standings as the winners
of the last four and are now tied for fourth in the standings.
Rollins opened up the series finale with two runs in the first
inning. Sean
Reilly drove in Zach
Persky and Anthony
Figliolia on a one-out single. Reilly finished the day with a
game-high three RBIs and now leads the team with 11 total for the
season.
Bentley cut the deficit in half in the top of the fifth tacking
on one run. Greg Baggett scored on a Sean Keady sacrifice fly
before Nate Witkowski was caught in a run down for the final out of
the inning.
The Tars then extended their lead to 4-1 in the home half of the
fifth. Figliolia and Persky scored on back-to-back at-bats as
Figliolia scored on a Kevin
Mager groundout and Persky on a Sean
Reilly sacrifice fly.
In the top of the eighth, the Falcons put some pressure on the
Tars putting up two runs to trail by one run, 4-3. An insurance
run in the bottom of the eighth would seal the deal for the Tars as
Adam
Ogburn (SV, 1) was able to go 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth,
giving up one hit.
Right-handed hurler Mike
Howard (1-1) took the win for the Tars going five innings while
striking out two and giving up one earned run. Bentley starter
Ryan O'Connor took the loss for the Falcons in four innings of
work.
Rollins will return to the diamond on Saturday, February 25 as
they host the Saint Anselm Hawks for a three-game series. First
pitch is set for 6 p.m. Fans can follow the Tars all season long
