Teuma tallied a game-high 14 points and eight rebounds to lead
Rollins to a 63-51 upset over No. 23 Fort Lewis College in game one
of the 2008 Rollins College Thanksgiving Classic Friday.
No. 12 Arkansas Tech beat Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras 72-56 in the
day's nightcap.
Rollins (5-0) shot 22-of-37 (60 percent) from the free throw
line, including 17-of-27 in the second half, and was 18-45 (40
percent) from the field. The Skyhawks (5-1) shot 36 percent (19-53)
from the floor and just 6-24 (25 percent) from long range.
Jessica
Pressley was also in double-digits for the Tars, putting up 12
points while Brittainy
Daiger added eight.
Audrey George led four Skyhawks in double-figures with 12
points. Katie Mackey added 11 with Laura Haugen and Alison Rosel
each putting up 10.
Neither team could put together a run at the onset of the game
with a Rosel jumper at the 11:21 mark knotting the game at 14-14.
Haugen connected on 15-footer the Skyhawks' next trip down the
floor to put the visitors up until a Pressley 3-pointer with 4:01
to go in the half put the Tars on top 23-22. The lead would grow to
five on two different occasions in the waning moments of the period
with an Erin Kerr free-throw with .01 seconds left cutting the Tars
halftime advantage to four, 32-28.
Rollins opened the second half on an 11-1 run, capped off with a
Pressley 3-pointer to make the score 43-29. A trey by Mackey and
another by Haugen cut the lead to eight, but the Tars responded to
push their advantage to 13, 48-35 with 8:22 to go. Rollins then
started the parade to the free throw line and hit 15-of-21 down the
stretch to post the 12 point victory and stay perfect on the young
season.
Rollins won the battle on the boards 34-to-30 and forced 21
Skyhawks turnovers while only committing 16 miscues.
Rollins will open up the second and final day of the Rollins
Thanksgiving Classic at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 29 against
Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. The tournament will conclude with No. 23
Fort Lewis taking on No. 16 Arkansas Tech at 4 p.m.
