WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Tars split a pair of matches on the second and final day of the Rollins Invitational, defeating Southern Connecticut State (23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-17) before dropping a five-set thriller to St. Mary's (25-15, 19-25, 22-25, 25-23, 11-15).

Cameron Grange led the way for Rollins across the two matches, tallying 30 kills, 24 digs and six service aces. Kayla Goodloe added 25 kills, including 13 on a .500 hitting percentage against St. Mary's. Vivian Scuteri chipped in 11 kills while leading the Tars with 11 total blocks. Fellow middle Robinson Repass also turned in a strong day at the net, recording 15 kills and 10 total blocks.

Setters Jenna Garza and Molly Morris guided the offense, with Garza dishing out 53 assists across the two contests and Morris adding 31. Defensively, Sarah Seabrooke and Lelolai Paulino-Dinzey made their presence felt, with Seabrooke collecting 23 digs and Paulino-Dinzey adding four service aces.

Rollins 3, Southern Connecticut State 1

Rylee Yarborough kicked off the scoring for the Tars on Saturday with a kill before an ace from Grange capped a three-point stretch to give Rollins its first lead of the contest. SCSU battled back, however, as the Owls reclaimed the advantage and held off the Tars through the middle of the set.

Yarborough, Grange and Goodloe each found the floor for Rollins, but it wasn't until late in the frame that the Tars found their rhythm. With Grange at the service line, kills from Repass and Goodloe, along with a pair of aces, fueled a late push that evened the score at 23. The Owls managed to claim the final two points, however, taking the opener 25-23.

The momentum appeared to stay with SCSU early in the second before a fire alarm forced a pause in play. After the building was cleared and the alarm deemed false, play resumed.

Rollins flipped the switch. Goodloe and Grange provided the offense, while Scuteri and Addilyn Kegerreis applied pressure at the net. Several SCSU miscues helped Rollins build an 11-5 advantage as the Tars continued to pull away. Yarborough sparked another midset run that stretched the lead to eight. The Owls made up some ground, but Rollins continued to answer until consecutive kills from Repass and Yarborough closed out the 25-19 set and evened the match at one.

The third opened as a back-and-forth affair, with neither side building a lead larger than two through the first half of the set. SCSU finally broke the pattern, rattling off eight straight points to take a 19-12 advantage.

Rollins had an answer. A Goodloe kill sparked four consecutive points for the Tars before the teams traded scores to make it 22-18 in favor of the Owls. A kill from Repass then capped another three-point Rollins run to put the pressure back on SCSU. The Owls briefly stopped the momentum with a point of their own, but Goodloe, Repass and Yarborough helped the Tars erase the late deficit and steal the set, 25-23, for a 2-1 match advantage.

Both sides traded blows to open the fourth, with Rollins finding itself down 8-5 before rattling off three straight to pull even. Consecutive kills from Grange and Yarborough put the Tars back in front, 11-10, as Rollins slowly began to create separation.

Another three-point stretch, aided by Repass and a Garza service ace, stretched the advantage to seven. Goodloe eventually delivered the final Rollins kill before an SCSU miscue sealed the 25-17 set and the Tars' third victory of the season.

St. Mary's 3, Rollins 2

After surrendering the opening point, the Tars responded with five straight behind kills from Repass, Grange and Yarborough to jump in front, 6-1. A Scuteri kill extended the advantage to 11-5 before she joined Yarborough in the attack to make it 14-7 later in the frame.

Rollins continued to pull away down the stretch, with Paulino-Dinzey delivering back-to-back aces. Scuteri and Elena Arnold put the finishing touches on the dominant opening set with a rejection at the net, giving the Tars a 25-15 victory.

St. Mary's answered in the second, using a midset push to build a 13-8 advantage. Rollins continued to battle as Yarborough collected a kill and an ace alongside kills from Scuteri and Goodloe. A finish from Grange put the Tars back within striking distance, while consecutive kills from Goodloe kept Rollins alive late. The Rattlers found the final push, however, taking the second set 25-19 to even the match.

The third opened as another battle, with both sides fighting to keep the momentum. Rollins gained an early advantage behind a Repass kill and a Garza ace before the teams settled into trading points. The Rattlers eventually broke through with five straight to reclaim the lead.

The Tars fought their way back to even the score, but another St. Mary's push put the Rattlers back in front. Kegerreis found the floor late to keep Rollins within striking distance, but StMU held off the comeback to take the third, 25-22, and move ahead 2-1 in the match.

The Rattlers carried that momentum into the fourth, racing out to a 10-3 advantage. Rollins refused to go quietly. Grange started the comeback with a kill before Morgan Coughlin entered at the service line and helped pull the Tars back within striking distance.

A pair of Grange kills continued the push, and a St. Mary's miscue eventually gave Rollins a 13-12 lead. The Rattlers regained the advantage, but a block from Kai Hazelett and Goodloe injected new life into the Tars and sparked a five-point run.

St. Mary's fought back to even the score at 22, but two more kills from Grange put Rollins on the doorstep. Garza finished the job from the service line, delivering an ace to seal the 25-23 victory and force a deciding fifth set.

Rollins grabbed the early advantage in the fifth behind kills from middles Repass, Willow Barron and Scuteri. A Hazelett service ace stretched the lead to 7-4 before St. Mary's began to find its footing.

A pair of Rollins errors and a Rattler ace helped StMU pull back within one before a five-point run swung the deciding set in favor of St. Mary's, 13-10. Yarborough kept the Tars alive with one final kill, but the Rattlers claimed the final two points to take the fifth, 15-11, and escape Warden Arena with the match.

Rollins returns to action next weekend at the Redwood Coast Classic in Arcata, California. The Tars will open the tournament against Jessup at 12 p.m. ET on Friday, September 4.
