ARCATA, Cal. – The Tars split the opening day of games at the Redwood Coast Classic on Friday, taking down Jessup (25-23, 25-16, 25-22) and then falling to Nebraska Kearney (25-27, 12-25, 19-25).

Rollins spread the wealth offensively throughout the day, with contributions coming from up and down the lineup. Addilyn Kegerreis led the Tars with six kills in match two, while Rylee Yarborough paced the attack with eight in the opener. Three more Tars finished with seven kills in the first match, as Vivian Scuteri, Cameron Grange and Kayla Goodloe each made their mark offensively.

Jenna Garza led the way in directing the attack, dishing out 32 assists across the two matches. Brynn Burgk also saw her first collegiate action, recording eight assists on the day. All three setters got involved from the service line as well, with Garza, Burgk and Molly Morris each tallying an ace.

Defensively, Sarah Seabrooke anchored the back row with 25 digs across the two contests. At the net, Robinson Repass and Scuteri led the defensive effort, with each recording multiple blocks for the Tars.

Rollins 3, Jessup 0

The first score of the day came courtesy of Robinson Repass, who delivered consecutive kills to open the set. Jessup answered with the next string of points, but a kill from Rylee Yarborough halted the momentum and helped the Tars regain their rhythm. The Warriors responded with another push, rattling off five straight to take a 12-5 lead.

Vivian Scuteri stopped the run with a kill to keep Rollins within reach. Cameron Grange found the floor a few points later, bringing Kyla Krimmel to the service line. Addilyn Kegerreis followed with a kill before Krimmel delivered an ace to pull the Tars back within striking distance.

After the sides traded points, Rollins pieced together another run behind kills from Repass and a block from Kayla Goodloe to make it a one-point set. The Warriors briefly stopped the run, but Goodloe and Yarborough finished off the next two rallies to even things at 16. Rollins grabbed its first lead shortly after thanks to a pair of Jessup miscues, with Yarborough helping the Tars stay in front as the end of the set approached.

Molly Morris and Goodloe both scored to bring Rollins to set point, but Jessup refused to go away, answering with a pair of points. Grange finished the job, however, finding the floor to give the Tars the opening set.

Rollins came out swinging in the second, with Goodloe putting away a pair of early kills to give the Tars the momentum. Repass kept her strong start going with another finish before Rollins went on a tear behind kills from Scuteri, Kegerreis and Yarborough along with an ace from Morris.

A Grange kill stretched the advantage to 14-7 as the Tars continued to apply pressure. Willow Barron checked in and collected her first kill of the day to keep Rollins comfortably in front. Three more points for the Blue and Gold came courtesy of kills from Grange, Kegerreis and Scuteri before consecutive finishes from Scuteri pushed the score to 22-14.

The Warriors answered with a pair of points, but Grange slammed the door. She connected with Morris for three straight kills to close out the set and give Rollins a 2-0 advantage in the match.

The Tars carried the momentum into the third, with Yarborough delivering a pair of kills alongside a Goodloe finish to build an early 5-3 lead. Jessup pulled even several times, but kills from Scuteri and Brynn Burgk pushed Rollins back ahead by two. Kai Hazelett found the floor to maintain the advantage before Barron did the same a few points later.

The Warriors continued to hang around, but Remington Doggett joined the attack with a kill to help keep Rollins in control. Jessup miscues added to the Tars' advantage, while Hazelett and Goodloe delivered another pair of finishes to keep the momentum firmly with the Blue and Gold.

Jessup made one final push late in the set, but the Warriors couldn't overcome their errors down the stretch as Rollins closed out the frame to secure its opening sweep of the weekend.

Nebraska Kearney 3, Rollins 0

Grange delivered the opening point for the Tars in match two before Goodloe and Yarborough kept the momentum rolling. A handful of Loper miscues aided the early push, helping Rollins jump out to a 6-2 advantage. The sides began to trade points before Kegerreis helped spark another Rollins run. Scuteri teamed up with Grange for a block before putting away a pair of kills to stretch the lead to 11-4.

UNK began to flip the script with a run of its own, slowly chipping away at the deficit. Kills from Yarborough and Goodloe helped keep Rollins in front as the Lopers continued to apply pressure. Nebraska Kearney began finding points in bunches late, but kills from Garza and Yarborough brought the Tars to set point. The Lopers refused to go away, eventually erasing the deficit and pulling even at 24. UNK carried that momentum into the final points, closing out the frame 27-25 to steal the opening set.

Both sides went toe-to-toe to open the second, with a Grange kill and several Loper errors helping make it 4-4. UNK found the first run to take the lead, but Rollins responded as kills from Yarborough and Kegerreis were followed by a Garza service ace to even things at eight. Repass delivered another kill moments later to tie the set again at nine.

Five straight points from Nebraska Kearney quickly swung the momentum, forcing a Rollins timeout as the Tars looked to regroup. The break did little to slow the Lopers, who continued their run and stretched the advantage to 17-9. Kills from Grange and Goodloe attempted to halt the surge, but UNK maintained control down the stretch, taking the second set to move ahead 2-0 in the match.

The Lopers claimed the opening point of the third before Repass answered with a kill for Rollins. Repass struck again shortly after as the sides settled into another back-and-forth battle.

Hazelett stepped into the attack and delivered a kill to bring Rollins within striking distance before Burgk followed with an ace. Hazelett then put another ball away to push the Tars in front. Kegerreis regained the advantage for Rollins following another tie, but UNK responded with consecutive points to move back ahead. Repass answered with another kill before Grange added to the attack to keep the Tars within reach.

The Lopers made their push near the midway point of the set, building a 15-9 advantage. A UNK service error out of the timeout opened the door for Rollins, and Scuteri followed with a dominant kill as the Tars began to claw their way back. A 6-2 Rollins run forced a timeout from the Lopers with the deficit trimmed to just two.

Grange kept the Tars within striking distance with another kill, but UNK responded with a surge of its own to create separation once again. Kegerreis found the floor in an attempt to slow the push, while Hazelett delivered a late kill to keep Rollins alive. The deficit ultimately proved too much to overcome as the Lopers closed out the set and secured the match.

Rollins returns to action at the Redwood Coast Classic tomorrow, opening against Northwest Nazarene at 12 p.m. ET and wrapping up the tournament against Dominican at 4 p.m. ET.
