WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (May 7, 2026) - Rollins dropped their series opener on the road at Palm Beach Atlantic, losing 4-3. The Tars fall to 32-14, 20-8 SSC while the Sailfish improve to 11-36, 5-23 SSC.
Rollins started the game with a strong first inning.
Joey Rubin led off with a single, stole second, moved to third on a
Collin Hughes single, and scored on a sac fly from
Michael Furry.
Matthew Mateo was up next, and grounded out to first, though it was hit far enough to plate Hughes to make it 2-0. The Sailfish answered back with a solo home run on the first pitch they saw on the night off the bat of Trey Miranda.
In the third, Hughes collected another single, and then stole second. After Furry walked, Mateo chopped a ball to third base. After getting the force at third, the third baseman launched a throw well over the head of the first baseman, allowing Furry to come all the way around to score, making it 3-1.
The Tars threatened in the fourth with two on and one out, but could not convert. Palm Beach Atlantic came through on their end, scoring a run on a single to cut the lead to 3-2.
Rollins threatened once more in the fifth with two men on base, but again failed to score.
David Austen came on in relief in the bottom of the inning, stranding a pair of runners to maintain the lead.
For the third inning in a row, Rollins had a runner in scoring position, but could not get him home in the top of the sixth. The Sailfish showed fight, and once again came through on their end with an RBI double from Brandon Castellon to tie the game.
Playing to the theme of the night, Rollins had runners on in the seventh as well. In fact, they had runners on second and third with one out, and then the bases loaded with two outs ... and again, could not find the plate.
After Hughes was stranded on second in the eighth inning, Palm Beach Atlantic came through for the final time. A hit batter led off the inning, followed by a sac bunt. When
JR Struk tried to pick off the runner, the throw sailed into center field, putting him on third. The next batter, Santi Scheele, ripped a grounder up the middle that bounced off Struk and landed near
Jimmy Thies. His only play was the out at first, but the Sailfish had taken the lead on the play.
To put a bow on the evening. Rollins once again loaded the bases in the ninth inning. On a full count,
Mauri Bejarano went down swinging, giving Palm Beach Atlantic the win.
Rollins had twelve hits, five walks, and a hit batter in the game, but stranded 15 runners on base. Hughes, Mateo, Bejarano, and
Connor O'Sullivan each had two hits to lead the offense. The Tars also stole five bases in the game.
Noah Greenseid tossed three innings with three strikeouts in the no-decision. Struk suffered the loss to move to 3-2 on the year.
The two teams will match up for game two of the series on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
