ORLANDO, Fla. (May 6, 2026) – The Sunshine State Conference announced their honors and awards on Wednesday afternoon. A pair of sophomore Tars took home recognition with
Alyssa Novoa earning a spot on the first team while
Nisan Can slotted into the second team.
Novoa was nails all season from the top line, working her way to a 14-3 record from court one. The Apopka native dropped just one conference match all season and earned victories over seven top twenty five opponents based on the latest
ITA singles rankings. The most impressive win came courtesy of a straight set victory over the nation's #1 ranked player, Kristyna Hranacova of Nova Southeastern.
Novoa's stellar season began this fall, when she competed in the ITA Cup. The sophomore was the first Rollins woman to participate in the invite-only tournament in more twenty years and set the tone for her fantastic campaign with a semifinal appearance. This Spring, she achieved the best solo ranking by a Tar since 2001.
Nisan Can had quite the special debut season as well for the Tars. Can's 18-3 record was good for the most wins by any member of the program this decade. Playing primarily from line two, the Turkey native won nearly all her matches in the minimum number of sets. The sophomore began her first Spring in Winter Park with seven consecutive victories. Can has worked her way up the ITA rankings as well, slotting in at #34 nationally in the latest poll. Her 7-2 record against SSC opponents added a key ingredient to the Tars best conference record since the 2021 season.
This season marks the first time the program has had two individuals recognized for their success in singles since the 2013-14 team. That year, Elissa DeCampli (First Team) and Ashley Rosenberg (Second Team) were recognized.
