Greetings #TARnation! For the final time this year, I invite you to join me on a quick update on the latest in Rollins Athletics. Remember, it's not goodbye ... just see you later:
- Men's tennis picked up a couple of resume-boosting wins in the SSC tournament, sweeping #6 Embry-Riddle on Thursday before besting #2 Saint Leo on Friday. The Tars then matched up with #1 Barry in the SSC Championship game, where they fell 4-1. Still, the boys have plenty to be proud of, including their first win over the Lions since 2019. On Monday, the team found out that they were given the #3 seed in the NCAA South Regional, and will head to Pensacola to fight it out against Florida Southern, West Alabama, and West Florida.Â
- More tennis! The Sunshine State Conference announced their accolades for the spring season this afternoon. On the men's side, Lawson Prather was named the Freshman of the Year following his dominant year from line one. He also earned a spot on the first-team singles. Joining him on the list are Mo Anterist and Fabian Gusic, who were both placed on second-team singles, as well as Richie Stoiberer and Pete Tran, who claimed second-team doubles. On the women's side, Alyssa Novoa was named first-team singles, and fellow sophomore earned a spot on second-team singles.Â
- Baseball welcomed #17 Wayne State to Winter Park for the weekend. What was supposed to be a four-game series was shortened to three due to weather on Saturday. The Tars took two of three from the Warriors, bolstering their resume for the season. Rollins had wins of 11-5 and 13-4, but dropped the final game of the series on Sunday, 6-4 in extra innings. Sunday's game was also Senior Day as ten Tars bid farewell to Alfond Stadium for the final time.Â
- Women's golf saw their season come to a close at the NCAA South Regional in Cleveland, Tennessee. After struggling in the first round on Monday, the Tars bounced back in their two rounds on Tuesday, jumping seven spots in the final standings. Freshman Youyang Li was the top perfromer, tying for a 5th place finish on the individual board. She was just one shot away from qualifying as an individual for the National Championship.Â
- More tennis again! How about aÂ
huuuuge shout out to junior Annie Sallick, who was named to the Allstate NACDAÂ Good Works Team! Annie was recognized for her work in the community, including the beginning of a partnership with the Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital in conjunction with Orlando Health. She is one of twenty collegiate athletes across all NCAA divisions to be recognized. Incredible!Â
-Sean Dobson from the men's golf team earned a spot on the third team of the All-SSC honors on Tuesday. The junior led the Tars in stroke average after playing in every round this season.Â
- A fleet of Rollins sailors were recognized by SAISA on Saturday, with seven Tars awarded with recognition for their fantastic year. Annie Samis headlined the group as the Women's Skipper Rookie of the Year, as well as first team honors. Other honorees include: Shay Bridge, Adelaide Matzky, Julia Scott, Jane McKenzie, Soleil Aurignac, and Mollie Wood.Â
-Men's golf will tee it up at the NCAA South Regional, hosted by Valdosta State, beginning on Thursday. If the Tars can finish in the top six of the 22-team tournament, they will claim a spot at the National Championship, which begins on May 20. Head coach Kyle Frakes is rolling out a lineup of Sean Dobson, Clarence Chapman, Gustav Ordel, Mick Herron, and Andrew Clark as the Tars look to return to the natty for the first time since 2003.
Â
-Baseball moved up to #11 in the ABCA national poll, and will close out their regular season with three games at Palm Beach Atlantic. They open up Thursday at 7pm, followed by another 7pm start on Friday, and a nooner on Saturday. Rollins is a lock for the NCAA South Regional, but their seed and opponent are very much up in the air. The boys will find out on Sunday evening where they are headed as they begin their quest for Cary, North Carolina for the third time in the last five years.Â
Â
-Fresh off their SSC Championship, the rowing team is headed north to take part in the Dad Vail Regatta, one of the country's largest rowing competitions. A strong showing in New Jersey should give the Tars enough juice to earn a spot at the National Championship at the end of May.Â
-Softball will host the Sailfish on Friday and Saturday as they wrap up their season at home. Friday's game is at 6pm, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday that begins at noon. Following Saturday's twinbill, the coaching staff will recognize six seniors who have been dedicated to the program. Come out and enjoy the final Rollins home sporting event of the semester!
-Finally, men's tennis is headed to Pensacola for half of the South Regional. The Tars are the #3 seed, and will take on #6 Florida Southern on Monday. A win advances them to the title game, where they will face the winner of #2 West Florida/#7 West Alabama. If they take both games, it's off to Arizona as they chase a National Championship for the first time since 2001. Â
