Tars Blank Bucs in Series Opener

Rollins defeated Barry 8-0 on Friday night

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 10, 2026) - Softball opened their SSC series against Barry with a bang, run-ruling the Buccaneers 8-0 in six innings on Friday night. The win moves the Tars to 22-12, 10-9 SSC while the Bucs fall to 21-21, 10-9 SSC.

Rollins got the party started in the second inning. Brooke Theisen led off with a walk. Two batters later, Kaeli Zahradnik chopped a ball to short. The ensuing throw to first was offline, allowing Zahradnik to move to second while Theisen came all the way around to score. Three batters later, Daylin Hejtmanek plated Zahradnik with a sac fly to left, making it 2-0.

Meanwhile, Reese Twiggs was dominating Barry from the circle. Even when she allowed her first base runner in the fourth, a double play quickly vaporized the threat. After another clean inning in the fifth, the Tars received a jolt when Madi Carr launched a pinch-hit homerun to right-center, scoring herself and Bri Perantoni.

Rollins put the game away an inning early with a huge sixth. Alondra Maldonado-Ortiz led off with a pinch-hit home run of her own. Two singles and a walk then loaded the bases with one out. Perantoni drew a walk with bases full, scoring another run. Next up was Carr, who hit a deep flyball to right far enough to bring home Jenna Borkey. Two batters later, Gabriella Barrera ended the game with a line drive single off the first base bag, scoring Hejtmanek to end the game.

Twiggs was masterful in her start, tossing six innings while allowing one hit, no runs, no walks, and striking out three. She faced the minimum 18 batters in her six innings.

The offense was led by Carr's three RBI, while Zahradnik scored twice and had two hits as well.

The two teams will meet for a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 1pm from MLK Park.
